  • 2014 End of Year AZ RTE - Ideas?

So, it's been a few years since we've done this, and we've half-heartedly tried to cobble something together, but I think we might need to consider trying this again.

We it was last done, it was between the Christmas and New Years holiday - just a ride to someplace "central" so that those that care to do a bit of a ride could do one to get there and have a lunch together. Now, "central" turned out to be Casa Grande once year, a couple years later, we did it in Florence - but you get the concept.

We'll start with are you interested/will you be available between the Christmas and New Years holiday?

Nothing cast in stone at this time...just contemplating the possibility.

Now, it *might* turn into a First Ride of the Year, as I'm taking time off thru the 4th of Jan

The time we did this a few years ago, I think we ate at 'Mi Amigo Ricardo" on Florence Blvd, if I recall correctly...

Anything any better around there that might be open?

I like the first of the year idea better. I'll be pretty busy the last half of Dec.

Lanny, I'm thinking that might be a better choice all around...which should give a bit of a chance to do a bit more scouting. :D

If we're doing this in the early part of January, it's gonna need to be a weekend, and it's gonna need to be fairly early in January...so to be considered the 10th of Jan or a week later (17th Jan).
Put that in yer helmets and ponder for a bit...

I'm open 52 weekend a year usually and open to all suggestions. Are there any hidden gems in the Tucson area that you would consider appropriate for us northern folk?

It's more of a ride for you in the north, but the best (only?) Mexican food place in Mammoth, AZ (La Casita) is most excellent.

I stopped in and had breakfast a month or so ago at the Vail Steakhouse, Cafe & Diner (it just can't make up it's mind what it wants to be!) at Exit 297 off of I-10 was huge!

Finally, a really, really great hole-in-the wall Mexican food is El Zarape, on Grande Ave in Nogales.

Seems like this is going to turn into a beginning of the new year ride...but there's not a lot of localized discussions here at all, it would seem.

EDIT: Any reviews here about Eva's Mexican Food, just north of the Sunland Gin Road exit in CG??

We've also had a meal a couple of times at Los Hermanos in Superior...good eats there as well.

Having something out in the flatlands gives those out west (think Yuma, Quartzite, etc.) or south-east (think Benson, Sierra Vista, etc.) a chance to possibly join us and for the trek to not be an all-day adventure.

...not that I'm necessarily opposed to a full-day of fun, but again, the RTE is the highlight.
