Several years ago, myself and two buddies, decided to do a ss1000 on VTX1800s. I had a mustang seat and thought it would be a piece of cake. Boy, was I wrong. Had it not been for the necessity of gas stops every 100 miles, I would not have completed it. Just under 1100miles of interstate in 20 hours. Never did turn my paper work in. Other guys did. Always regretted that. Thinking of doing it again. Pretty sure the wing will do it with no issues as I already have a couple of 600 mile day rides.

A bit of wisdom congealed into one easy read, in the event you have not seen it before:

Two of the biggest that I can vouch for...if you can make two or three of the roughly six to seven fuel stops on a GL-based bike you need to make in under ten minutes (that's wheels stopped time), you'll have a very nice time for a SaddleSore. The second, plan your fuel stops close to the road - EZ-on, EZ-off - makes that wheels stopped time that much shorter.

Again, remember that it's an average speed of ~42MPH that's needed to ride 1000 miles in 24 hours. Much of your route will put you on roads that'll be much faster than that.

I have another thread here on this forum that discusses these and other topics:

It's been too long since I've done a cert ride; I might try to squeeze one in before the calendar ends, weather depending - yes, even at this latitude. :D
