Ok so I am kind of new to the Darkside stuff. I know this does not answer your questions and I am going to be putting the Yoko on the back of my bike next, but what is it with the Battleaxe on the front? Does it do ok in the rain?
Thanks

Papa Smurf2, I am pretty sure I have read where folks running the BT45 are using 40-41psi.
ColoradoWinger the Battlax (BT45) is designed to be a rear tire to fit another brand/model of motorcycle. Being a rear tire it comes from the factory with deeper tread grooves, which means it should last longer. However, it is a dual rubber compound tire that wears quicker on the sides than in the center. That dual compound makes it ideal for Interstate riding, but the sides apparently disappear quickly if it is ridden a lot in the twisties. I have also read that you have to keep the pressure artificially high (40/41psi) to keep it from cupping, It is supposed to have pretty good traction wet or dry. I have never run the BT45. Good luck.
I run this exact tire combination on my bike. Usually run 38-40 in the Battlax and 34-36 in the Yoko RF. I've got 7K on the front and 10Kon the rear and they both have plenty of tread left!

I don't ride to make great time; I ride to have a great time!
Run a BT45 on the front at 40 psi and Mich Alpin on the rear at 30 psi. Got 27k on the BT45 and 24k on the Alpin. Got some cupping on the front from doing some twisty stuff a few times, the rear has a ways to go yet. Been in several bad rain events and both tires handled it exceptional well. Hope this helps.

I run my BT45 at 42 psi its a great tire mine still looks new with a little over 4000 miles on it. A lot of other rider report more then 20,000 mile on this tire with the proper maintenance. Good Tire Enjoy

I keep my pressure up at 42psi cold as well. On my 5th one now and the first 4 went over 30, 000 miles each (35k on last year's. It still had a few thousand to go, but I put a new one on each season.) Kurt

Thanks for the information Richard. I think I will just stick with the rear tire change. I do enjoy mountain riding here in Colorado.

Well, i dont ride a ton of twisties, but will be riding the mountains in Colorado next week. When you say some twisties, whats that mean? Once a week, riding them hard (like scrapping pegs and lots of speed) or what??

It all depends on how you ride them. What will prematurely wear out the BT45 is spirited rides through the twisties, where there is a lot of leaning onto the softer sides of the tire. You can ride the same road at an easy pace, whereby you don't lean that far, and never have a problem with the BT45. Peg scraping usually indicates you are leaning far enough to be on the soft side.
The times per week don't matter nearly as much as how hard you do it. I would be willing to bet that someone like Murgie would wear a BT45 completely out in a day or two. There are others that could get 20K+ miles, with most of them in the twisties. It all depends on style.
Thanks Elrod. I'm excited to see what kind of miles and how the ride feels with this on the front. So, now, if I have 2 rear tires on the bike , does that mean I have 2/3 of the way to a trike?? lol

Ok, after aride out west, and 3869 miles later, the Battlax works like a dream. Rode inn hard rain, dirt and gravel and it tracked like a dream. Very happy with the decision to go Double.

I also have a BT-45 in front; I usually run 38-40 psi. Good tread, good grip - I am please with it so far (aprox 5K miles).

I just got back from Colorado and I am double dark. I now have 26,000 on front. I think I will change it before the end of the year. The trick to longevity is the way the wheel and tire is balanced. I have the centramatics and I don't think even beads can match it. Remember it keeps the tire balanced perfectly throughout the life of the tire. Metal weights are almost obsolete. Good luck.
