  • Google Maps

I have a question. Can I load Google maps routes directly into a Garmin 660?? I have tried and tried to use Base Camp, but it is the most ridiculous routing software I ever saw. Thanks....

Basecamp does take awhile to get used to. Stick with it, it gets easier. Anyway, to load maps from Google Maps into the Garmin, it needs to be in gpx format. The like below will allow you to save a Google map to a gpx file. I don't remember off the top of my head how to load the file to the GPS, I'm sure a quick Google search will find it.

Thanks for the info, but unfortunately Google has changed their maps and this will no longer work.

I am really surprised that someone has not produced a GPS that uses Google maps.

Does anyone have experience with the Honda Powersports software?? It "appears" to be simpler, but I have not had the time to check it out. The folks that put together base camp need to have their peanuts cracked. The old mapquest worked just fine. The new software is rediculous and appears to be as complicated as they could make it. Why??? Geeks who fail to realize that most folks dont care about all that spiffy stuff and just want something that works....simply.

I use Google maps and several other GPS programs on my iPhone too. They work fine, and I don't have to worry about updating maps.
I have never owned a stand alone GPS and really see no need to when it is all in my shirt pocket already.

I prefer maps usually obtained free from AAA. Easy to read, easy to follow, and immune to battery failure. Plus no one shouting in my ear!
