  • heated grips and seats working intermittently

We got our first cool spell this weekend so I took a long night ride out west to try the heated seats and grip. Well guess what, they come on and after a short while they would go off and will not come back on. The grips would heat up for a few minutes and then go out and would sometimes restart if i turned off the bike and restarted it I was looking over the clymer repair manual but it does not cover the heated seat of grips. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you repair it. The bike is a 2010 with comfort and audio. I bought the bike about 14 months ago and the seat and grips did work. Is it normal for the heated seat and grips to give up so soon. The bike only has 24000 miles and I hardly ever use the heat being I live in south Florida

Mine did the same thing and now they quit working completely. My bike is an 08 and is still under warranty so I'm taking it to the dealer once the riding season is over and have them fix it. This will be the second time.

do you have the honda extended warranty or a third party? It looks like the comfort part of the audio/comfort is not to dependable.

Check the wire connectors under the seat the backrest or the seat may not be connected properly this happen to my 2010 a couple of times. The connectors just wiggle lose i tapped mine until i upgraded my seat. Not a problem now new connectors are nice and tight.

it is usually the left grip heater that goes out, shuts off both grips and seat.

I got them to work for a little while the other day and the grips really get hot when working. I will look into the seat plug before taking the shelter off. I hope it is something simple as a loose plug or a bad left side grip. After reading a whole lot of posts it looks like the left grip is the weaker of the the 2. I see that the grips are a bit pricey. Where would be the best vendor to get them from at a good price? If anyone else can thing of something to check before removing the shelter please let me know. Thanks

I found buy doing a search on Ebay you can find the best prices, dealers and part supply houses are always listing items at way below the average cost. Just no your part number and exactly what your looking for. Works well for me hope this helps.

ok everyone I just got some time to look over the bike this is what I found. I turn the grips on and they work but as soon as i turn on the seats the grips go out. Here is my question if the seat was bad would the grips still come on with the heated seat turned off?

FOLLOW UP. After testing, the grips are good and they will work as long as the front seat heater is not turned on. The grips will also work with the rear seat heater turned on. I removed the seat and pulled out my cd for the 2010 year. There is a section in there about testing the continuity of the seat heating elements. The front seat element failed but the rear seat and back rest passed. I installed a jumper in the front seat heating element connector and i found continuity so the wiring is good but not the elemet. I installed the seat with the jumper to retest the seat and see if the grips would stay on with the front seat turned on. It did not work. I removed the seat and foud that the jumper had gotten hot and I hope that the HCU did not get damaged from the jumper. Removed jumper and went for a test ride to comfirm my findings. The grips will not work with the front seat turned on due to the bad element but will work with the rear seat and back rest turned on. Well It would really be great if we had a forum member or sponser that would repair these seats instead of have to replace them. Hope that my testing will help someone out in the future. There is really no need to remove the saddle bag for testing if you are only having troble with the seat part of the system and a comtinuety test maybe all you need to perform. Thanks all for your suggestions. Okay so who has a heated seat laying around that they would like to get ride of?
