  • Back Off wig Wag

I want to get the Back off wig wag brake modulator, but according to what I understand one model is good for two lights and the other is good for 10 amp three lights. I would like all four of my break lights to modulate. By the way I have a 2001 1800.

So any suggestions on which one i should get??

I would get two of the two light models. I have one connected to just the trunk lights as I wanted one set to be solid brake lights . Of course I have a tir3 on my fender..

Has anyone made a plug and play harness instead of having to cut wires?

If you have a spoiler lite, try Bike MP3 they offer a plug and play unit that flashes the spoiler lite 5 times then stays on while the brakes are applied.

A plug and Play would be great too. and I want more than the spoiler lite to flash. But thanks everyone.

You could replace bulbs with LED's, which draw markedly less current-Cruiseman has a video on that-

By the way, cutting and splicing is a pain but I think the Wig Wag is a great safety item. I may eventually add the spoiler and one of the flasher units for that, too- they are plug and play

If you get too many lights flashing you may confuse others instead of having them stop and not hit you.

The main purpose is to get the less skilled, impaired, elderly, sight challenged, and texters to notice you are braking and stop.

You can have too much flashing light to be effective and actually could cause yourself to be hit. (CHP has done studies on flashing lights).

Same for headlights, to many and too bright can actually be less effective as the glare can effectively cause the other drivers to lose their distance perspective to the MC and they might thinl they have more time to turn left.

That is why I only have trunk lights on the wigwag and my lower lights stock OEM operation. Add the tir3 to the fender to wake them up..

A Thor brake light modulator from lakesideelectronics.net/

Very easy to install (but it is not plug and play) and 19 different combinations, and allows about 3 times as many brakes lights as its competitors.Plus, it will keep repeating as long as you press the brake (s)
I have the standard lights (its a 04), plus a spoiler, lit reflector and Kury mudflap lights and it runs them all with no problem.

Need a pic of them activated. How long have you had the setup? Where did you tie into the bike's wiring?

I'll post a video of them if I can figure out how to do that. The instructions call for you to tie into the main brake light wire (dont recall the color off hand), under the seat. I used bullet connectors so if it craps out, I can just unplug the unit and reconnect the original brake wire. I've had this setup for 9 months, and really love it. There are 19 different blink, strobe, long and short flash combos available and, you can create your own. The Unit is less than 1" square (maybe 3/4"+ I have gotten many comments on it as it is very eye catching .

I went to the website and watched the vid there but does not due justice of how it looks on the Wing, so I wait with baited breath. What setting did you use?

                            http://youtu.be/Upez8NijQ7s <------- Try this

Every light hooked up to the brakes: the 4 standard brake lights,
The LED Spoiler, Reflector and Kury mudflap lights all flash, strobe and blink then go solid and will repeat as long as the brake pedal(s) is held down.

azsandrider has a great point i have seen riders being cut off with headlight mods, I witness a accident four years ago with a wing, he pulled out to pass my rig and just stayed off my rear his head lights were blinking looking like he was wanting to bring it over then just pass by me. He did the same to other vehicles about 4 miles up the highway he did the same to a Van but the van pulled over in his lane and had to slow due to traffic next thing you see is the rider in the air going threw his windshield in to the back on the van. He was shaken up head and neck injuries lucky man.

The women driver of the van keep saying he signal me over i felt bad for both of them. i got to say the rider was riding to close and always waited prior to passing plus the mods didn't work out for him. I see a lot of others who ride well keeping a good safe distance were mod lights work well. I am a fan of rear Mods.

There can be "too much of a good thing" for lights.

I can even see a civil case being made that too much brake lighting could cause the collision due to blinding the driver's depth perception and shift blame to the MC that was rear ended.

I bet Honda has spent A LOT of money and time determining how much brake lighting is effective as opposed to too much lighting.

A brief 3-5 flash on the top bar (if you have one) should be sufficient to catch the attention of a motorists behind you; as its up higher on the MC and right in view of a driver behind your. A TIR3 low on your rear fender won't be seen by a tailgater anyway and could startle a t driver with the amount of light, causing them to waste precious time when deciding to brake behind you.

When I was investigating serious/fatal collisions, I had to consider things like 'light blindness' as I often testified in court as an expert witness.

How many of you notice how bright the police car LED lights on top are at night? They are so blinding that its hard to see what is going on as you approach, which may be important if the officer is in a fight on the ground with a suspect in the road. An oncoming motorists might want to be able to see that (It happened). When I was experimenting with a local company with LED emergency lights for my motor way back in 2001, the engineer/owner of the company put a photocell so we could decrease the light out put at night. It worked well, the light were still easily visible but the blinding effect was gone. Most companies today to want to add the extra trouble or expense to add the circuits to the emergency lights and most desk jockey who order equipment for the PDs don't have real world experience to think about specifying it into the order.
