  • Cupping tire:(((

OEM Bridgestone front w/ 11K miles is cupping ONLY on one side. Already down to wear indicators. 2012 trike w/ 26K miles, second new tire. Any ideas what may be causing this?? THX in advance. Plan to buy another new tire while in Spearfish end of the month. Had MPAs on other trike, but rode a little stiff. Any new ideas which tire to go with???

In my opinion 11,000 miles on the tire is pretty decent wear. How much more is the one side worn down from the other? If it is minimal I would just replace it and not worry about it. Maybe you turn more in a certain direction than others like right handers. Just a thought. I like the Bridgestone tires for mine.

Johnny, just a couple questions/thoughts. Have any of your wheel weights fallen off? Are you using Dyna Beads? Have you measured the "corners" of the trike to see if it is sitting "level?" Any chance the Trike kit is out of alignment?

These are a few things that come to mind and I would check. I too had some wheel weights drop off and darn if the front did not start to cup a bit. I added Dyna beads and after this last trip (3800 plus) the tire looks good now. The other points that I make may have a bearing on possibly causing the bike to "lean" a bit thus cup one side, or if out of line scuff the front to one side.

Just a quick thought. Hope it helps.

All the best to you and that lovely bride of yours.

I was having a vibration like a unbalanced tire, just placed Dyna Beads and it has improved greatly at HWY speeds. Oh the tire is a new BT-45. Kit

Try the BT-45, good choice for a Trike. Centramatics help also, they just cost more than the beads and you have to install them under the front rotors.

I'm convinced that some tires just cup regardless of the brand. Some say to increase the tire pressure and that helps. I run E3's with 36 front and 41 rear, (not a trike). I was told in the past maybe on my second set which was cupped, that I was cornering like I was on my dirt bike. point and shoot is what he said I was doing according to my wear. Since then I've concentrated on smoother cornering throttle and have not had a cupping issue and really good even wear. But who knows the next tire just may cup anyway.

I ride a two wheeler so this doesn't mean much, but, I haven't had a cupped tire since I upgraded my suspension.

you know, I guess now that I think about it, that may be my case. Here all this time I thought I was becoming a better rider! LOL! But I'm sure now that it was all suspension and I really can't believe I didn't even think about that.

You are an excellent rider so I don't think your riding style is contributing one bit to tire cupping. I'd say, if anything, your riding style contribute ot tires not lasting too long.

I'm on my 2nd BT45 and my next tire will be another BT45. Ive had 2 MPA's and both cupped on me. The second one cupped with Centramatics and I figured it had a bad carcass. BT45 and Centramatics work for me.

I installed this new tire last November. As I stated from the beginning I love the ride and handling. IMO, it is far better than the MPA or BT-45 most are currently using.
