I am coming up on 50,000 kilometers on my 3 year old GW, and sure enough I ran into one of Honda design/installation problems, broken wires with the trunk sub harness, right at the bend in the trunk. If Honda pulls off a stunt like this in their new Honda Jet, the Honda Jet will go the path of the De Havilland Comet!
Both speakers are dead and while I did find one break, for the left speaker, rather then screw around with it, I ordered a new one from partszilla, which should arrive this week.
Though the removal and installation would make for an interesting helpful Video, (Hint, Hint,
), I am assuming if I pull off the speaker pods and back seat, I can simply replace each plug as I pull the old sub harness out.
What I am really interested in is picture of how people have attached the sub harness near the hinges of the trunk in a manner which greatly reduced the bending and flex of the wires. I currently have the old harness hanging rather free behind the passenger back rest and that seems ok, however, I am sure someone has a much better idea.
Also, would it not be a good idea to have a sticky of suggested must do mods that everyone should consider when the pick up a new or new to them GW.
Relocating the trunk sub harness away from the trunk hinges would be my first suggestion, which is simple and easy for anyone to do.
I never heard of this problem until I ran into it, then I was a little surprised to find how common of a problem it really is.
