  • Power remains on after the key is turned off

This has only happened a couple of times in the past six months, but I've had a random issue in which I turn off the bike (2002), the engine stops, but the cowl lights remain on, my accessories (radar detector, etc) stay on, and the bike's screen stays on. I have flicked the key back and forth a couple of times and the power has shut down, and I have also just let it sit with the key in the off position and it will shut down within a few minutes.

    Thoughts?

How are you turning off the engine - kill switch or ignition switch?

35101-MCA-671 Part 32 is this listing...

      https://www.partsfish.com/oemparts/a...bar-top-bridge

$40-ish - looks like the part is readily available (see eBay, for example)

So, the key part of the switch assembly is still functioning, the contacts in the electrical side of the assembly may be failing after nearly 20 years.

You may be able to take a good spray cleaner and get it to clear up, but it wouldn't seem to be a big job to remove & replace.

I got some electrical contact cleaner and sprayed it down the keyway and then blew it out with compressed air. It's working, but then again it also works 99% of the time before I did that so I guess time will tell.

How man miles on the bike?

FYI- Electrical contact cleaner only helps loosen the dirt/crud build up in the upper half, of the two part Ignition move more freely.

The lower electrical half.delivers power through the bikes harness, to start and stop the distribution of electrical power, including accessories.

The top only turns the lower.

        Need more info.

True...I woudn't think the contact cleaner, sprayed thru the keyway, would actually reach the switch mechanism.

In fact, it may remove some of the lubricant in the mechanical section.

        160K on the bike (2002)

Well, the key turns a bit easier now

I guess I can try to dig into it this weekend and get to the switch. I'm riding to Nogales on Friday, so I hope it doesn't mess up on me that far from home.
