  • Left pocket cover disconnect?

I had to replace the fog light switch and the left pocket cover on my 2008. One of the arms had broken. The new parts came in and the fog light switch was a snap. Once the pocket was out this part was done in about a minute.

However, in the process of removing the broken cover from the pocket hinge I ran into a snag. I cannot get the pocket pins to pull / punch out of the arms so I can swap lids. I assume it pushes out one end or the other, but cannot get it to punch out. Before I do damage to the hinge (which I did not buy another of), anyone know whether these punch inboard or outboard?
Punch left (inboard) or right (outboard)? Punch left (outboard) or right (inboard)?

Fixed! Now here are the secrets behind this effort. First, the pins simply punch out. One end of each is rough which keeps it from simply sliding out. Second, don't buy any of the parts other than a new lid. Having originally given up on figuring out how to get the pins out (and needing to fix it before tomorrow's Christmas parade) I ordered the parts to bypass the originals and once I got the pins out, didn't need any of them after all. Third, take pictures before you start disassembling the lid and pins. Thank goodness I did. They really helped me figure out how to get the spring back in. No, it was not intuitive, at least not to me. Here are some photos that, along with the originals above, may help the next poor sap who finds him/herself in my position.

Oh, and to add to a conversation that went on earlier in the year about receiving OEM parts in Walmart ziplocked bags. All of the OEM parts I've ordered in the past month have all arrived in legitimate, sealed packaging. And that included parts ordered from Partzilla, DMC Cycle Parts (via ebay) and through our local Honda dealer, Lejeune Motorsports.
