  • SuperBrace Installation

I have had a fork stabilizer on every Goldwing I have owned. They are easy to install, relatively inexpensive, and I feel that they help stiffen the front end, especially when making low-speed turns. Here is a video I created showing how to install a SuperBrace:

I know you compare products and such and I'm sure you get a little something in return for the ones you use in your videos. My question to you is have you installed and done an analysis on the 5 piece fork brace to the 2 piece and then which do you find is better at doing its prescribed job? You can answer me via PM if you wish so as to avoid any conflict.

I have had other bikes with fork braces, those needed the help. To me at this point I feel the need yet, but the bike is new, and I am going through break-in and learning process and have yet to lean on her. I do know I will eventually be doing a suspension upgrade front and back. I'm a big boy and already know I have to make her suspenders stronger to handle me.

      Thanks you that video.
I have wanted to put one on but never knew how to do it.
With that video, it's going on next week.

Not really a conflict. I will give my honest opinion. I have used the Kuryakyn brace, which I think is a 5 piece, and the SuperBrace 2-piece. I have not used the Traxxion brace. From a purely technical standpoint, there may be advantages to a 5-piece. However, having used both, I have never been able to tell the difference. The 5-piece models are typically more expensive and the Kuryakyn chrome is not nearly as high quality as the SuperBrace, IMO.

I guess is money is no object and you like knowing you have a really hi-spec item, the Traxxion brace is probably the way to go. But, dollar-for-dollar, I am a SuperBrace guy.

And, for full disclosure: SuperBrace does pay me a nominal fee to produce their installation videos.

Absolutely. I even did a special video for trike installation, even though it is identical to a two-wheel Goldwing!

Cruiseman, you said "And, for full disclosure: SuperBrace does pay me a nominal fee to produce their installation videos."
love this kind of honesty on a board/forum.

I have to admit i have never experianced(yet) any steering or handling problems with my 14 gl1800. Ive heard of this wobble but not had the problem. Is this an issue that has been solved on the newer bikes or one that shows up over time. I have 3000 miles on it and even the tires are wearing great. Just curious what i need to be looking for.

Actually it can happen to a new bike as well as after time. And, it is not limited to Gold Wings either. It seems to show up a lot of times after a tire change and can be at least in part be associated with the Wing's "weak" suspension. Supposedly with hands off of bars but I've heard some complaints of it happening with hands on the bars. Usually deceleration at approximately 40 mph and less. I have myself never experienced it on any of the Wings I've owned. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

The wobble is not something that affects every Goldwing. I never had it on my 2005 or my 2007, but do on my 2012. There are a dozen theories on what causes it and what can fix it, but I have never found a definitive answer. For me, the combination of a Superbrace, Dyna Beads and a new set of Bridgestones got rid of the wobble, that is, until the tires got about 4,000 miles on them, then is started to return. Nothing better than new tires and I think the Dyna Beads (or possibly Centramatics) really help.

I got the Superbrace, had it for close to 11 years now. Just be sure the screws are tightened down equally and to the proper spec FT/LBS.
