  • Dash Lights

Got tired of not being able to see my dash, pockets, and other miscellaneous controls while riding at night. Here's my fix. Blue LED lights to match bike to light up dark areas. I removed the center emblem thinking I could get enough light to illuminate the grip/ seat heat switches. That failed, so will revisit.

    I like it!
I always wondered why Honda chose to illuminate some switches and not others, but it would seem that your mod would take care of that shortcoming.

I have to go back and add the light under the seat & grip heater dials or make center light more gooderer. I removed Honda emblem from dash panel for this install.

Honda didn't back-lit some switches due to glare on the windshield at night.

Let us know if you can see any with the blue lights at night.

Have you thought about mounting LED strips under the handle bars? The height and angle should give you light on both sides where you want it, except when turning.

That is essentially what I did. There is a small LED light at end of handle bar on each side. Doesnt matter when turning for obvious reasons. But good otherwise. But I have dark spot around NAV buttons. THats what I need to address better!

I like this idea, now you have me thinking about something like this on my GL1500. . . .

Meant to post a better pic of dash lighting. So here it is! The front and ground lit as result of headlights and foglights all being on.

Do you have some under handlebar shots of the lights in situ.?

looks similar to what I just did to mine. Sorry, not a great picture and haven't had a chance to ride it yet, but liked it just sitting outside the garage. I to didn't get the desired effect of lighting up the buttons around the key but am working on a solution. I want to make sure that I don't have any glare on the windshield as that annoys the crap out of me.

Now you need to post a video of setup. I have an '03 and use the Rivco strips on the control pods. But your setup is spot on. Can you dim the lights? Does the light reflect back into the windshield at night?

No dimmer installed. As the LED's are a soft light. Yet bright enough to illuminate controls. On/Off. I still have dark spots around the heater controls and waiting for time to be able to add another light to address. The blue light in center of dash was hoped to address this, but no go.

No glare on windshield as lights are far enough away AND focused downward on dash. If you look closely, light stops halfway up front speakers.
