  • Another Oil thread...

I realize that this is just another oil thread... ad nauseam.... and I also realize we all have our particular brand of oil that fits our needs. I'm good with that.

But, I wanted to communicate my latest experience with oil on my 2006 that has really made a difference. This post is not meant to convince anyone to change oil brands, but just to inform.

I've owned Cisco (my 2006) for about 4 years now. It's the first Goldwing for me. I've always owned Honda Magnas or Kawasaki Nomads. I change the oil on Cisco about every 3500 to 5000 miles. I've used several brands of oil... but all were fully synthetic. The engine loved the oil, but my tranny never shifted right. At least it didn't shift as smoothly as I wanted it to.

On a recent trip, I was telling a riding buddy how I felt about the tranny. He suggested that I try Lucas 10w40 Semi Synthetic oil. Long story short..... my tranny shifts like its brand new now. It's like my engine loves the synthetic part and my tranny loves the dino part.

Have any of you experienced this?

I'm having a brainfart (not enough morning coffee). What's the code we look for? Lucas 10w40 Semi Synthetic oil shows as A3/B3/B4 - SM/SL/SJ/CF online.

The only one that matters is JASO-MA/MA2 - the spec as called out by Honda.

Changing synthetic oil at 3500 to 5000 is a waste of money. Use dino oil if you change it that often.

Agreed, which is why I'm spending a few dollars on oil analysis from Blackstone Labs.

I'm actually more on the 5,000 side. Plus, it depends on what type of environment I've been riding in.... desert dust or rainy woods.

Note the mileage on this interval...

I run the Lucas 20W50 full synthetic motorcycle oil, and change it at 8,000 mile intervals. I prefer the heavier oil since it sees use in the transmission. Lucas makes quality lubricants.

I am a firm and dedicated believer in the WMOIOS* brand.

I also re-use the Oil Drain Plug Gasket!

I live life on the edge: I tear the tags off of mattresses, drink from the garden hose and I've ridden in the back of an open pick-up truck more times than I can count!

We've got geckos and spiders. Being a gentleman, I always offer the garden hose to others first. These two thoughts are not necessarily related (but they might be).
