  • 2003 wing Good Year to buy?

I've come across a 2003 wing and the owner claims it only has 6000 miles on it-That Low of mileage can be good or bad. but it always sets off a red flag to me.
I know there were frame problems, other than that was 2003 a good year quality & problem wise?
    Guy wants $12,000

I would check to see if the recalls have been done. just call a dealer with the VIN number and they can check it for you. If you get it I would change all the fluids and check the rubber parts including tires for deterioration . I think 12k is a bit optimistic. I paid 10.5k for my 03 with a bunch of farkles a year and a half ago. It had 20k on it then.

I agree with rays. I had a 2003 Wing and it was a great bike once all the bugs were worked out. The frame recall is the big one. I would also ask for records of any work done, warranty or not, but with only 6000 miles I doubt there will be much there to see.

If you ask about the frame recall and he states it has been done. There will be a very noticeable indent on the edge of the Vin Plate, It will be there if the recall has indeed been done. It is a mark put there for mechanics to know it has been inspected. Other wise you can run the VIN number by any local Honda Shop and they can tell you what recalls, service/warranty work has been done on it.

I have an 03. I bought it 3 years ago with only 19k on the clock. It had Traxxion rear shock, CB, ABS, GPS, and a few other farkles. I paid 11k back then, and would think the same thing could be had for less today. I would say 10k max. I'm now at 61k and have had very little problems other than consumables, tires, bulbs, oil.

I also have an '03, it has 110K on it with no problems. I expect to run it for a long time to come.

As long as all of the recalls have been done, it is a good reliable bike. 6000 miles is not anything for a Goldwing. I would jump on that!

Make an offer for less money, that's high for a bike that's 12 years old, does it have ABS?
Also look very close by the passenger floor boards for cracks in the frame tubes.

I think for $12000.00 you can find a newer bike, don't let high miles scare you off, these bikes will go 200,000 plus.

12,000 is top dollar for this bike, the 6000 miles most likely means this wing has sat for long periods, not a good thing if it was not looked after correctly, would definitely have a qualified mechanic check it out $10,000 would be a good price ..make sure the frame is checked

I bought a 2003 Gl1800A 3 years ago with 12000 miles on it. I paid $12000 for it. It did have alot of added features that my wife did not like so off they came. I think the older goldwings are better then the newer ones. Less going wrong with them.

I have two indents and when I picked up the bike the first time I walked around the bike and found huge noticeable scratches on the lower portion of the right saddlebag. If one did not look, it would have been missed due to angle and lighting. I went back and kept my cool and had the service manager come out. He apologized and new parts were ordered and installed.

A couple of years ago I purchased an "03" with under 10k (9400?) it was quite dirty, flat tires, neglected, but not abused, not sure just what was available as far as options in "03" but mine has to be the basic of basics, as I see nothing in the form of an option, I paid 9.500, & outside of tires/battery (reg maint) have done nothing but ride. I checked & the frame recall had been done, I did receive a recall (brake related, I think) which I never bothered to address, can't remember the reason except I remember reading mixed feeling about the recall. As to the price, a person would have to see it, but I don't think it is bad for a decent "Wing" jmop

I gave $9500 for my 03' in November of 2011. Had a bunch of farkles. Was $3500 under book value at the time. I know someone just sold a 08' for $12,500

This could be a very good bike? But the price is way to high, this bike is now (or soon to be) 12 years old & should be priced much lower.

03' with 6000 miles... would probably need tires, maybe battery unless changed prior, all fluids changed / Brake Fluid (to synthetic), Oil (to synthetic), Coolant ( past time), Clutch Slave (to synthetic) and check the rear end fluid just sitting these items go bad. The reason for Synthetic is longivity so it not required as often. Valvoline now has Dot 4 Synthetic Brake fluid and it works well as it doesn't soak up moisture in the air like std. Dot 4 / its just prevenative things should be addressed prior to putting it on the road to avoid problems. The 2003 is a very good bike , for me trike and will last many miles with proper maintanence. And you have a much more pleasing bike to look at, the new ones just suck and have to many little problems. Just my opinon....

Of course all this cost money that should be subtracted from your cost up front..... at least 1500 - 2000 grand if a dealer does it all....

Bought my 03 in 05 and paid $11500 with 32,000 miles on it. Never had a problem. Several have posted the price is on the high side. I agree.

OK someone has to say it.Just because the frame recall was done and it was OK then doesn't mean that you're out of the woods.Doesn't mean that they won't crack there ever, just means it was OK at the time. There are cracks showing up now in a different spot that isn't and never was included in the recall(Mother Honda is doing nothing about these). There was a very good reason for them to come out with a totally new frame in late 04.By late 04 I mean May or June of 04,just before the 05's hit the market.

I'm on the fence about selling my 04 while it's not cracked or taking a chance that it may never crack.I'd sure hate to get stuck with a cracked one.An 04 frame is $2600 and an 05 is $1600.
