  • Extended Warranty

In Nov my 4 year warranty is up on my 2010. Wing owners in other states only have to pay half for the extra 4 year warranty cost $400.00. But here in Florida its $800.00 due to some stupid law on the books to protect the senior citizens, how paying double helps anybody i don't know. I am debating on what i should do buy it or take my changes. Haven't had any problems other the last brake recall. I have read were a lot of wing owners go 200,000 to 300,000 with out any problems at all. I didn't buy the warranty when i purchased the bike i thought my dealer was couching me and i could do better since, i read they were only 400.00 else were.

There are some that say the extended warranty is not worth it when you look at the overall reliability of the GL1800, but it only takes one claim to make it worth the cost, even if you do have to pay the full $800.
My first 1800 was a 2003. The first claim was for the radio. and that alone justified the cost for me, but that was only the first claim. The same bike had a transmission failure and then an ADG failure. What the warranty saved me on those two claims has paid the unused extended warranty on my 05 and both 2010s that I have owned, so for me, it has been worth it even if I never have another claim

Am I mistaken? I thought the normal factory warranty was 3 years (not 4) and that the extended warranty was 4 years.

I think you are correct, and if that is the case, then Yellowbird, You may be out of luck on extended anyway.
From what I have been told, you have to be within the factory warranty to be eligible for extended.

It depends on when his Wing was put into service. He could have a 10 that was not put into service till 2011. Hope this is the case if he wants to purchase it.

I bought the extended warranty on my wing. It's a gamble of course, if you will ever need it. For me, I just paid for it at the time of purchase and pretended it was one heck of a farkle. Now, after the fact I don't worry about a big expensive repair bill on my bike. We can all make a case against it and/or for it........:D Good luck Sir

Honda's warranty is for 3 years, some of the dealers had a deal that you'd get an extra year for a total of 4 years.
If you got the extra year I don't think your eligible to buy the extended warranty.

Yellowbird, if I were in your position I would need to consider the amount of miles that I typically put on the bike. Is your's one of those bikes that has 15-20K miles per year being ridden? If so I would go with an extended warranty, as you are likely to get your money's worth out of it. If your's only sees a lower number like 5K miles per year, I wouldn't think an extended warranty would be as good a value.

There were various 1 year deals offered. I was told that my one year extra was included with my bike purchase from the dealer. Then I read ... somewhere ... that if you had the one year, you couldn't get the four year. My plan all along was to get the 4 year, so I called to get the 1 year cancelled. Honda confirmed the following to me:

Only a single Honda extended warranty can be place on a bike, either the 1 year, or the 4 year
The 1 year can be cancelled if, and only if, the bike is still under the original 3 year warranty
My bike did not have a Honda 1 year warranty (apparently, it was covered by another outfit), so it was eligible for the 4 year (which I purchased, and later called back and confirmed it was applicable, I was paranoid by this time).

The Extended Warranty is like any insurance - Great when you Have it and need - Sucks when you Need it and Don't have it -

Also, remember if your thinking about the extended warranty, buy it sooner then
later because like the new Goldwings, prices will increase.
