  • 2018 Wing Tour 6MT in the shop :(

The Wing is in the shop. Took it back to the dealer yesterday. HSA has been going into error and self activating while riding down the road and now has completely failed. Dealer knows about it. It's been back once already and you guessed it. It wouldn't go into error or self activate for them. I did get a video of it erroring out but the morons at Honda would not except that as proof of the issue and would not ship parts. I find it very strange Honda's tech line reader did not find or see the HSA errors. It did read a code about the front wheel speed sensor. The clutch has started making a noise. Clutch lever pulled in silent. Clutch lever out sounds like worn out gears rubbing together. It's not bad. Just goes from silent to a slight noise. But with a near silent engine sounds like this one all the sudden jump out. The top plate for the steering head is starting to loosened up. The bluetooth system on the Wing is pretty much useless. Works one time right then won't work for days. Then sort of works then works right then dies again. It's a complete cluster. The Sena 10s works great with every other system I have tested them with. Works perfect with the bluetooth Sync3 in my car. Kind of interesting if you want to drive a car around with a helmet on. Sena will control all bluetooth aspects of my laptop and related software, home a/v and theater systems. Yes there is more than one in the home. So in short mine and the wifes Sena's are fine. Honda has a problem. A few other little niggles also.

Called the morons in Torrance. My vocabulary sunk to four letter words. I just can't stand speaking with useless corporate idiots. To there credit they have tried calling back. But the corporate morons keep calling my wife. She gave them my number which they have anyway and told them she had no desire to speak with anybody from Honda after all the issues we had with three of their cars. She does not own the bike has no vested interest in the bike leagley, morally or ethically.

I doubt the bike will be fixed by the time of bikes blues & bbq. Dealer could not comment on the timeline. I nor the dealer thought this would be a drop off and leave the bike. It's looking like the problems could be fairly extensive. And they did not have a loaner. Said if they had one it would be mine. So that's food for another thought process that does not have a good outcome.

So the wife did not follow me the 1.5 hours to the dealer. So I had to wait on her to get there and pick me up. Which was fun! Always a ton of activity at my dealer. They are a multiline dealer selling Honda, Harley, Suzuki ATV's and SxS. Happy people, all sorts of enthusiast. Motocrossers, Sport Bikers, Drag Racers ( Busa Boys and Harley Big Bore ) Adventure bike riders, Harley owners, atv and sxs from racers to farmers. All getting along and having a great time. All enjoying kids getting there first little motorcycles. And teens with there parents getting there first real street bikes. To new Harleys being sold and picked up. Everything they sell going out the door. Then there are the Wing riders. Are we as Wing owners suppose to be truly boring and carry a elitist chip on our shoulders? This is the third time I have seen this at my dealer since buying my Wing. Saw the behaviour many times before when I owned my Harley I bought from them. But never really gave it any thought until I bought the Wing.

One good thing. When the wife picked me up we went and had a great late lunch then stopped at a casino. Did pretty good.

Here's to hoping for the best or the Wing will be history.

First. Sorry to hear about your bike. I'm sure Honda will get to the bottom of what the root cause is.

As a guy who had 11 warranty claims. That Honda covered without a complaint from me.(All on the same bike)

I can tell you for a fact.
"You'll get better results not yelling/raising your voice/or using profanity in asking for their help".

As a businessman. I know the world doesn't stop, just because I have a issue. I have to get in line like everyone else.

That's why I own several bikes. I don't sweat it when one of them needs my attention.

Psy, your dealership sounds slow & BORING! My Honda Powerhouse dealership is a beehive of activity! 2 demo Goldwings to ride (DCT & manual) super friendly & knowledgeable staff, a huge parts counter with 4 guys, lots of adults & teens looking at the new & used bikes . . . need I brag any more??

You need to find another dealer . . .

My 2018 Tour 6sp, new this spring, had the HSA issue. After living with it during the summer, 4K miles, and multiple road trips, I noticed a pattern. When outdoor temp went over 85 degrees (+/-), the HSA light would start blinking and stop working. Below 85 and it worked fine.

I contacted numerous dealers in my area after 1st noticing the issue and reading other posts targeting the HSA root cause as the 2 clutch micro switches (and Honda tells the service tech to re-route or adjust wiring in the handlebar to alleviate possible stress points).

Three of the 4 dealers said they had seen other bikes come in with that issue. They would not make appointments, insisted on me leaving bike for diagnostics, and then waiting the typical 5-10 wait for parts, then install. I did not want to have my bike sit in shop for ~ 2weeks for this issue. The last dealer I talked to was awesome. I was able to actually talk directly to the chief mechanic. He said he had performed the fix on another good customer's bike and immediately had the parts manager order the two switches. They called me a couple of weeks later, said they had the parts, scheduled me in for an appointment convenient for me, and serviced it while I waited.

No HSA blinking light since, but the weather has changed and I might not see 85 plus days again till next summer to make me feel like it's definitely fixed, but glad they took action.

        Look around, if possible.

My bluetooth works perfectly with my Android Phone and Sena 30s, sorry to hear you are having issues. Does your bike have the latest Jan/19 Nav/Audio update? Might be worth looking into.

They are thinking it's something in the wiring like a pinch or damaged area in a sub harness. Temps and moisture have nothing to do with it in my case. It's had issues from day one concerning HSA and how the Bluetooth works. Both have got progressively worse. HSA won't work at all now. And the Bluetooth is on it's last leg. Another caveat I've not heard about that my HSA has done is self activate and hang in the activated mode. I have to stop and turn the bike off when it does that to clear it. It's only self activated four times when going down the hwy. So I expect new brake pads also. Also the wifes pillion heater has stopped working. The top plate the handle bars mount to is also a tad loose. So thats 4 warranty issues in just over 3k miles. One more and it's history. I bought a 2019 FJR1300ES today. Will pick it up in Arkansas this weekend.

Dealer is not boring at all. People come from 5 to 7 states to buy powersports machines from them. Saturdays are complete insanity with the amount of Hondas, Harleys, Suzukis and Honda/Polaris S x S and ATVs sold. It's a party atmosphere. It's just the Wingers. Now to be fare I did run into a Wing owner I knew. And he is from the same town I'm from. He had been out of state for two years and just moved back home and was looking into buying a new Wing and Harley. He thought I was still on the Road King. And he even noticed what sticks in the mud the other Wingers were. If we still own the Wing next year we will run up to WingDing in Springfield and meet some Wing owners in there natural social habitat and see how it goes. It's kind of funny, on the road we have not met or been greeted by one fellow Wing owner or couple. Every other discipline and type of rider has greeted us. Asked about the bike. Or just general BS while fueling and hydrating. Nothing from a Wing rider or couple. Very Strange.... Posted about this phenomenon on another board. A member asked if we were ugly and smelled bad. Maybe thats it.

Going to WD is for masochist. I have no desire to get hit by electric carts they need for mobility.

It a dam good place to go if you need good material.

First week of the Wing in the shop. See how many weeks it takes for the call to come pick up my bike. Doesn't look like we will make BB&BBQ this year. With the wife breaking her foot this week and no idea when my bike will be out of the dealer jail shop.

Why do they put this crap on! Hill start assist? I use my brakes on my 08. Another reason to not "upgrade". Number count I have lost count of, but up in the twenties at least. This has to be the biggest dissapointment ever in a new motorcycle.Everyone *****ed and complained for 15yrs about the old goldwing. Hope you are happy, you get all this new tech that does nothing but cause aggravation.

Quite the contrary. I love my 2018 MT! I'd be on it everyday if I wasn't still working. Just an amazing motorcycle. So far, about 9,300 trouble free miles.

RonH your level of hate is almost comical. I guess you forgot about the recall concerning the braking system on your gen of wing? Not a warranty issue but true safety recall. The overheating issue. And other issues that have become hallmarks of the last two gens of wings. That tried to act like Harleys. Not to mention the absurd size and weight of the giant pig. With buttons scattered around like a space shuttle. Front forks with twisting and sticktion issues, anti-dive braking issues. Enjoy your log truck.

The clutch side switches were replaced so the error is gone and HSA is working again. They looked into the HSA self activation but couldn't find anything relating directly to the errors or to there or Hondas satisfaction. Wheel speed sensor error has showed as a ABS error twice now. But only once as a code that could be pulled with the reader. Which also could lead to a issue with HSA weirdness and of course ABS failure. They said the passenger seat heater was working. And admitted it does not get as hot as the drivers front section does. And they checked that against the three bikes they had in stock and against a customers bike that was in for service. All four behaved the same way mine does. They say the bluetooth is working to spec. It wasn't so I tore into the bike last night. I found a questionable ground. Repaired that and now the BT is working just fine. It would not surprise me if this ground is part of the issue for the HSA self activation and wheel speed sensor looking at the wiring schematics I have that came with the service manual.

I am very surprised at just how poorly the ecm/ecu/fcu is programed to report errors and how poorly Hondas Techline reader or whatever they call it is able to pull codes, errors, malfunctions or current states of operation. I have watched the tech use this box of junk. The only errors there system has ever pulled is one instance of the wheel speed sensor. Also showed a error the seat heater was not plugged in when the seat was off the bike. The bike has showed a ABS error twice on the dash. No codes at all concerning HSA even with the HSA light blinking amber and in a complete state of failure. Nor will it show HSA has self activated four times in the past. I find it completely stupid that the system can't show something as simple as current draw for the seat heaters and past errors for HSA and missed one ABS error. All of this should be programed into the onboard computers. I know there automotive systems work far better than what I've seen on this Wing.

Sorry Honda. This is the last product I will ever buy of yours. The quality of your cars is now crap, lawn mowers and generators or now overpriced and under performing and it looks like your bikes are right behind them. Onward with robotics and airplanes!
