Is there a light colored 1/2 cover for the new 1800?

  • #2
Honda makes a gray 1/2 cover that works fine. I have to keep sun off top of bike at work. I use Honda's full black cover at home for the night.

It's the full cover from Ultra Guard for the 2018 DCT Tour. It fits like a glove, is well made & a great price ($70). I got mine from Big Bike Parts. I could not be happier!

How does the Ultragard half cover work on the 2018 Tour with the fixed CB antenna?

Rodg-you are better off buying the shorty JM antenna screw it off before you cover the bike-shorty cb antenna fits nicely in the trunk or saddle bags-no theft worries.

Dunno’ about the 1/2 cover but mine has a velcro closure for it to go through!

So, do you simply have the cover ride up at the CB antenna mount or did you do "surgery" to make an opening? I chatted with Big Bike Parts 2 days ago: they have no plans for a half cover with the velcro closure for the antenna.

Most of the time I leave the antenna on and let the cover ride up. Sometimes I remove the antenna and place it on the seat. You could use a hot knife and make a slit then stitch around it if you have to have a better fit. I use cover at work and on trips to keep the sun off the plastics. My full cover has zippers and velcro to make an opening for the antenna.

                          This might be the appropriate time/thread to ask this;

What I would like to know is how compact you can squeeze the 1/2 cover down. I remember my old full size Ultra Guard cover was a pain to give up space to. It was like a small tent size stuff sack, I split the zipper on the bag it came in as it never seemed to fit back nicely into it. Also, when wet, I had to lash it to the rack bag to dry it out quickly whereas a 1/2 cover might dry faster.

Goldwinger, how big is the full cover box/or the square pillow shaped bag w/cover in it, if you wouldn't mind taking the time to size it.
Paladin, how big is the 1/2 cover packed up? if you wouldn't mind.

It might be worth just going full cover if I don't save too much space on the 1/2 size, since packed size is a factor for me. The increased coverage would be nice if it rained while camping as all the dirt and pine needles and stuff would seem to splash up on the front rim, engine, and pipes.

As I seek to fit the 24/7 stuff I used to pack in the GL1500, FrogTogg raingear, tire repair kit, some tools, tape, ties/kit, first aid kit, a gallon of gas<not going to happen, and the bike cover, all fit in the left saddle bag. I would like to get close as in hand grenade close to fitting that, into the 2018. Just slim things down, rain gear, maybe a quart or no gas, smaller first aid kit, less tools, a small air pump w/tire repair kit, and the bike cover, if I'm lucky.

The 1/2 cover is about 1/3 the size of the full cover. It is at work now. It should fit in a 6" cube. You can get compression stuffsacks that would compress it even more. A stuff sack with outside straps that squeeze the bag.

Wow, that's pretty small. I'll brush off the pine needles for that kind of space savings. Thanks for your time and reply.

Thanks, Paladin says 6" cubed on the 1/2 size, that sounds great, but I would still like to know what the full size measures from a recent owner. Thanks

Kiptap, the full cover in the bag is about 10” x 10” x 4” thick. It’s a great fitting cover & I will be taking this one on every trip!

Okay, I know everyone is ballparking the sizes but on face value.
                                      1/2 cover 6" cubed 6"x6"x6"=216in3 or 3.5L
full cover is 10"x10"x4"=400in3 or 6.6L
Whelp no surprise there, the half seems to be about half. With a 30L saddle bag, I best start the calculations of all the junk I want to carry 24x7. I may be able to squeeze in the full cover after all. Stuff sacks are going to be mandatory to keep the stuff from falling out when opening the hatch.

Thanks one and all for the info.
