  • Who lives in the best place to ride with the best year round riding weather and road conditions?

Southwest Louisiana will not be at the top of this list even though we get to ride all year long. The humidity coupled with hot and cold temperatures will really test a riders will to ride.

I cannot wait for fall weather to descend upon us. Living here in the tropics, it's been a sweltering maximum humidity summer. Our best riding weather is in the fall. I realize a lot of you folks up north are closing down your riding season. I hope you guys have great fall riding weather.

So what is your opinion about who has the best year round riding weather and road conditions? No not Hawaii.....:o. California might be at the top of the list. Let's see what folks think.

I vote for Calyfornya, within two hours you can be from the valleys to the mountains. The temps also vary by elevation.

Yep places like we have in the south, whew, it gets hot. So hot it will melt rocks. During July, August and half of September here in South Carolina I tend to do things to the bike and let it sit for the most part, if I do go for a ride I make sure I am home by 11 a.m.

We went for a ride a couple days ago, light pants, long sleeved shirt only and left the helmets at home..........oh me oh my, gonna die. Lol!

But it was cooler for sure. All that wetting yourself down is survival mode, certainly is not enjoyable.

Speckfisher could very well be describing North Central FL. I am ready for some cool weather. The last two weeks have been mid 90s and rain every day. But, I do ride all year.

However, I lived about a year in Vancouver WA, but did not have a bike at that time. I rode around quite a bit in the van with the family and my memories tell me I'd love to got back and do some 2 wheel driving there. Beautiful country, mild summers. lots of twisties.

Northern CaIifornia in the best year round riding. In the heat of the summer we ride up in the Sierra's or on the coast. I ride year round and with my love for cool crispy weather (check my avatar) I usually ride more miles in the off season. No bugs on the bike, no Rv's, Harley's or tourists to clog up the roads.

Sitting in the saddle of my Gold Wing, wherever I am at when I am mounted is the best place to ride.

Southern California probably has riding that is just as good. We have the southern Sierras, the Santa Monica Mountains, San Bernardino Mountains, and San Gabriel Mountains to keep us entertained. There are lots of states that I haven't ridden, but I sure am glad that we have the roads here that are really fun to ride. We have found a lot of hidden gems that are very lightly traveled by cars. I have also found some really fun stretches of road in some of the other western states such as Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Utah. While they all have fun roads, California will trump them in # of days to ride, and miles of such roads.

There are lots of sacrifices for living in California, but quality motorcycle roads, and weather are not one of them.

We'll have to agree to disagree about The North vs. The South. One thing for sure, no other state even comes close.

Illinois isn't noted for good riding roads, to flat for the most part, but we do manage to find some roads to ride. as for temps, it can get a little warm in the summer but if you prep for it you can have nice rides. on other end of the temp scale, if no snow on the ground and no frost, makes for good riding. when I first got my bike almost 4 years ago I set the lowest to ride at 16*. now I raised it to 20*. around here hardley owners park at 60* so it aint crowded when out riding

I used to live in the Dallas area and San Angelo. Had a job offer down in Houston. Was in Michigan taking care of my Mother-in-Law at the time. Asked her if she would be willing to move down there - we'd set up a place for her. Her reply -- "That would be like a slow roast in Hell" - needless to say we didn't move. Went to the Ranger's first night game at home couple of years ago. 104° in the shade in the evening.

So tell me again how Texas is so great ???

Disclaimer - I do intend on going again to the Texas IBA ride this November.

But to answer the question - I really enjoyed my time in northern California - Bay Area and north. Now living in Tennessee - not bad here either.

Thus far members have limited themselves to the confines of a single country.
How many months of the year must you reside prior to defining " home"?
Some of us spend different seasons in different countries.

One would be hard pressed to not include southern Spain or Italy, for spectacular motorcycle riding. opportunities

It does get a tad warm here, but there are ways around it. Good road surfaces and conditions for the most part too. I'm sure there are better climates, but overall not bad.

                                I'll second that.
I ride year round and where I'm located, I'm only a couple of hours from the coast, or I can head to the hill country, or Big Bend.
There are without a doubt better places for riding, if you only want to ride a few months out of the year.

I think I need seasons and I personally think that where I live suits me best. South Central PA. I do most of my riding during the spring and fall, but still ride in the heat of summer. People have said to me, "can you imagine how many miles you'd have if you could ride all year?" My bike is usually parked from Nov. to March and allows me to give it a good going over and perform all necessary maintenance. Winter makes us appreciate spring. Usually by the time winter hits I'm ready for a break and come march I'm chomping at the bit to ride again. I think I would get tired of it if I rode year round. From my door step, I'm an hour away from WV, an easy days ride north to the New england area, west to Arkansas / Missouri areas, and south to Florida (if I Have to). March is like a second Christmas. Even though I park my bike for the winter my daily average miles since I got my bike is about 102 miles per day. 2300 and some odd days so far. I HATE THE HEAT!

Well down here in Florida we ride all year we have two coast plus the Keys to explore. Not many twistees or mountains to clime, we get some heat, some cool weather and lots of rain but we can ride all year round.

We live near Houston, we can ride all year. Fall, Spring and Winter is mostly great, rain and heat is to expected anytime, along with some flooding and hurricanes.

But all and all the Texas Hill Country is like no other, The 3 Sisters is a full week of wonderful riding and sites. Thursday Night Steak Night at the 11st Street Cowboy Bar in Bandera is a top bucket list item.

But my passion is Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and the South & North Dakota's. This year vacation is to Glacier National Part, MT

For riding, I wish I was back in NC. It gets hot and humid, but as long as you're rolling it's manageable. It gets cold in the winter, but the amount of snow and/or ice is minimal and I could ride throughout the winter.

Having said all that, KY is God's country for riding for the reasons I said for NC, plus the roads are a heck of a lot more interesting all across the state, where NC's best roads are mid-state westward.
