  • Now the fun begins

October/November is one of my favorite riding times of the year. I am just now starting to plan our long ride for 2014. Should we go back to Tennessee and North Carolina? How about back to the Grand Canyon? Or, maybe north. We have never ridden in Florida, so that might be interesting. So many places, so little time. Would also like to ride to Canada sometime.

Canada is always nice. Florida is people on top of people most of the time, it can take you an hour to go 20 miles sometimes. Utah and Califorya it would be hard to chose which is prettier.

I like the western states the best, cause you can see things. Carolina, Tenn, Virginia all nice, but the trees do not allow you to see miles across the hills and valleys.

If you go to Alabama make sure you have a really good rain suit, never been there it did not rain, hail, or something. I do not mean light rain, I mean the kind you need a boat. Lol!

Always have enjoyed Canada, but some of em talk funny.

I love fall rides, but it looks like I'm going to be limited to shorter day trips this year. My photography business is booked with equestrian events through the end of the year.
I'm not complaining though. this is a good problem to have!

Many people do not realize that Canada is substantially larger across than the USA.. Via the Trans Canada the distance is over 7,700 kms across!
So without a specific destination(s), one would need to have more than a few weeks to see Canada in the fall.
The topography is as varied. from sea side to high mountain passes, which can and do receive snow at any time throughout the year.
During the fall months the different Provinces within Canada offer different viewing.
I have never been to the Maritimes during fall, so can not comment.
I definitely enjoy the seeing the leaves of the hardwood forests changing colours. Southern Quebec, and within a few hours north of Toronto, around the entire "Cottage country. Georgian Bay to north of Superior. The Prairies are mostly viewed via The Trans Canada,. fall harvest. Then of course the Rockies. Which the time of the year is irrelevant to their majesty. , themselves offer vistas unworthy of just words.

PearlBlue, I would have to agree with the beautiful riding & scenery in Canada! September is one of the best months to ride here . . . the kiddies are back in school, much of the RV's are off the roads and the hotels are a little cheaper. Come out west to the Rockies if you want to see beauty! Lake Louise, Banff, Jasper in Alberta, and then head west into British Columbia and the Kootenays (Crawford Bay, Kaslo, Nakusp, New Denver) and then into the Okanagan (Penticton, Kelowna, Peachland) and finally over to the west coast (Vancouver, Victoria, Chemanus, Long Beach, Ucluelet, & any of the Gulf Islands). I would suggest atleast 1 month minimum. The riding here is spectacular, the people are sooooo friendly, incredible parks, rivers, & forests with wildlife everywhere . . . what else is there to say, except come and enjoy our beautiful country. Right Kit . . . eh?

We have never ridden in Florida, so that might be interesting.
I lived there for 5 years, gave up street riding, there are neat places to see, but I'd do it in the comfort of air conditioning in a cage.

I have no desire to ever ride a street motorcycle in FL again......

Next year I want to take a Battleship ride. Meaning I want to visit the battleship museums. Uss. Massachusetts(Boston) Uss Wisconsin(Norfolk) Uss Alabama(Mobile) Uss Texas(Houston). I would love to see the Missouri(Pearl Harbor) but the Bridge to Hawaii has not yet been built and I cant get my pontoons to attach to the wing. Could stop in the port of LA to visit the USS Iowa but this might be a little lengthy for the time I will have.

The farthest south we have gone is to Maggie Valley, NC and Helen, Ga.
Just to hot down there. We like the northern states and also Canada (around Lake Superior).

The Smokey's are so nice in the fall months. Good luck with your decision and/or navigational direction.

A ride through the UP is always a good time. From the Soo locks on over to Supperior WI, hugging the Lake Superior shoreline is really a scenic route. September would be a great time to see the colors changing.

If you come out to AZ let us know when and I bet us AZ GW riders will meet you to ride the Devils Highway. Its in the mountains and gets cold on top so October would be better (for the Grand Canyon too). And you won't worry about much rain in Az.
