  • Full face modular helmet

I have always been a 3/4 helmet guy... But after seeing some wrecks I decided to go full.... Please tell me they take some getting used to, I feel like I'm in a diving bell helmet .... Totally confined and I can hardly breath, breath mints are a good idea too!!!

    LOL

I wear a modular. Chin bar down and usually the visor mostly up with sunnies. I presume the helmet is a good fit for your head shape as the fit changes from brand and model.

If you already were wearing a 3/4, going modular just adds the chin bar. You feel more encapsulated, but get used to it quickly. Never ride with the chin bar up.
I have a Shoei Neotec in addition to a half helmet. The difference in protection is night and day. If you wear glasses a modular is easier than a full to put on and take off.

All we wear are modulars now. We do have a regular full face as well for winter months.

Our modulars, Gmax hi-vis, are just for summer/warmer months, so that we can open up to get fresh air.

Behind my shield, I can ride with helmet shield closed and modular chin bar fully open and feel no drastic effect of wind drag.

Matt, you don't need no stinking helmet.

Over many years of riding with a 3/4 helmet I have tried on 2 different occasions to wear a full face helmet with no success both times. My opinion on them is just like yours. Don't know that a modular helmet would be any different as the chin bar would be down while riding.

Matt, I wear a Nolan N104 Modular and like it. As said before, you can ride with the chin bar down and face shield down. I can also ride with the chin bar up and no drag. Mine also has the built in sunshade goes goes up and down, pretty nice actually. There's gotta be a couple bike shops around you to try them on. Wear them around the store for 20-30 minutes if you can to make sure they don't hurt your head.

I used to wear small helmets, not even 3/4 which is why I think my hearing has been damaged, loud pipes and wind. Went to 3/4 for a while and then decided I want the protection from just about anything that can come my way, including bees. Took a bit of getting used to but not long and now I would not ride without the full face protection. My wife and I both have the Shoei modular helmets.

One of my issues with modular is the wind noise and some helmts are not made with quality, seals leak in rain.

They are a bit heavier than regular full face too. My Shoei full face weigh less than the Gmax.

The fact that I have the option of tinted inner visor is nice too.

Lately, we've been wearing soft ear plugs, which help reduce wind noise but, don't affect the bluetooth intercomm volume much, just need to turn up the music and intercom a notch or two.

I have been shopping modular helmets and am worried about the switch from my current to that. I like the idea of being able to open the front while at idle. My wife isnt thrilled or sold on the idea. I am planning on taking her helmet shopping soon so we can try to find a suitable solution. We have been jooking at the hjc is max 2 and the rpha modulars. Plus i want the sena 10s bluetooth.

The diving bell feeling could be a touch of claustrophobia , which is what I have. Unexplainable but not surmountable ! The moment I put on a full or modular I begin to sweat profusely !

My wife really had that issue - it took wearing a modular where she's got control wether or not the chin bar is up to make her comfortable.

I ride a lot (probably too much...) with mine up, but it's really nice when that wind/rain/hail decides to visit while on the move.

FYI on Sena SMH10. On my modular, I'm having to install the clamp unit way too far back because the visor slide switch is right where clamp should be mounted.

Something to consider prir to purchase.

Get the 10S and you don't have this problem.

What's the diffference? SMH10S also uses the same type of clamp unit to mount the head unit?

My modular have a slide switch for the inner visor on the left side of helmet, right where you would "normally" mount the clamp unit.

You can't mount the clamp on right side because it will face the wrong way, especially with boom mic.

The 10S has the boom mic but uses a wire to the unit, not the boom attaching directly to the unit so you can put the clamp back farther and still put the mic where you need it.
