  • SoCalMotoGear LED fog lights

Today I finally got to install the fog lights that I won from SoCalMotoGear. I was really surprised at how well they looked inside the rectangular holes of the cowling. Below are a couple of pics (I am no photographer) that probably don't do the lights justice. I am surprised to see in the pics that the fog lights seem to be aimed so high. I followed the aiming directions so not sure if I did something wrong or not....does anyone have any comments on this?

    Thanks again SoCalMotoGear and Cruiseman.

I thought they were too high, but there is no adjustment to lower them down. Perhaps someone from SoCalMotoGear will see the pics and comment.

Richard, when those are on...as high as they shine...they would definetly blind an oncoming car.

Tip, place a thin washer between each of the mounting screws and the place where they mount to the cowling...and that should act as a shim...to lower the lights. If there are screws or bolts at the front and rear....place the washer (now used as a shim) in the front screw locations, and it will lower the front end of the lights.

I think you get the idea, so adjust this theory as needed.

Thanks MMR. I was afraid that would be the case. Re-installing the lower cowl on this bike is a real PITA.

I guess I could take up coon hunting.

It this the LED fog you have? (see link below)
I have a set of these from before this forum was born.

If so, the screw on the bottom should have a spring inside of the fog light mounting bracket.
Just screw in the screw several turns and that will compress the spring and pull the bottom of the fog lights closer to the motor and lower the beam.

            Rick

BTW if you ride in the rain, remove the fog lights and run a silicone bead on all the seams then replace. I am on my second set

Rick, I believe you are correct on that screw. I followed the directions about placing the bike 16 feet away from a wall and aligning the top of the beam cut-off to the same height as the center of the light (18" in my case). When I did this, they were (so I thought) perfectly aligned. Now what I am wondering is if the beam cut-off line I saw was from the bottom LED and not the top.

Thanks to all for the replies.

When you mounted them, did you use the washers behind the top mounting bolts? That can force the lamp assembly down a bit.

I did not but may have to try it.

When I installed my fog lights, before I reinstalled the cowl. I turned on the bike, covered the headlights (HIDS) with a towel, and then walked away from the bike, over a 100 feet, bending over every 20 feet to so, to ensure the hot light spots from the fogs where not too high and aligned together. I really didn't want these LED Fog lights creep up and blinding the oncoming traffic, which is what I also did after installing HID in the low beam of the head lights.

Thanks Rick. I am headed out to the garage to pull them out of the bike now to seal them up with silicone, then reinstall after they dry and then properly adjust the beams.

I pulled the lights out and there is evidence that they have already been sealed with silicone. Perhaps SoCal, once aware of the problem, had the manufacturing process changed. Who knows!

I know that when I installed mine, I used an extra spacer/washer than what the instructions mentioned because on one side I could visibly see the lamp was aimed too high.
