  • Bring More Members to TheGLForum

We are working hard to spread the word about TheGLForum in an effort to attract more members, but we could use your help. The more members we have, the better the site will be for everyone. And, more members means we can attract more sponsors to help us offset the costs of maintaining and expanding the forum.

Here is what you can do to help:
    • If you have a website, place a link to TheGLForum. This helps with Google and other search engines.
    • Post a link to the forum on your Facebook page.
    • In your motorcycle-related emails that you send to friends and associates, mention that you are a member of TheGLForum and include a link in your signature.
    • Tell your riding buddies to join in the fun by registering on TheGLForum!

The forum has grown organically to this point, and we feel our members are the best asset we have to increase our exposure.

    Thank you for supporting TheGLForum!

I put a link on my Facebook page. Plus, I have told several of my friends on that "other" forum who have come over here.

Not to be cynical, but I have to pay here to make mention of my website and that reference is tucked away where it is almost impossible to find, but you want me to do this for free for yours......

I think I would agree were he talking about commercial web sites. I got the impression he's talking more about personal pages. I definitely agree that it would be a bit much from a commercial web site (unless he was offering to pay).

Good luck with this, so far it really has been a boring site. We want to support it but this site is your money making venture. Most of us, like yourself, don't work for free.

I think one of the problems, which I hope we can overcome, you have drawn mostly the cream of the crop, from the other forum, with regards to those who have knowledge of the Goldwing and general riding for that matter.

With that, many of us don't have many questions to ask of others as we already know the answers. This leads to a lack of general help threads being posted which, in my opinion, is why this site is fairly stagnant.

The other site also seems to be pretty stale as well, so maybe it's just the time of the year as we progress into less riding.

I agree completely with this one, and will add that the "cream of the crop" (for the most part) effect is going to continue, until the web site starts working it's way up the search engines. That's when we'll start to see the influx of "newbies".

Of course, generating that type of traffic I'm sure is what he was looking for in this request.

New riders who have many questions is will be this site to where it needs to be. I think Chris nailed it when he mentioned cream of the crop. We all know how to change our oil and know how to select tires that agree with our riding style, so unless fresh new members come along with their questions, it will be fairly quiet here.

I only have one friend with a GW to tell, and he has already joined....

It will take time to grow larger. I would think time, energy, and $$$ needs to be invested to get this site at the top of search engines...

My situation is identical to AZSandRider above. I know a couple of other GW riders but am no longer in contact with them. I invited one friend who joined but is not an active poster. I think the problem the website and all of us members are facing is Honda is not selling a lot of Goldwings now so overall interest level and activity has declined in the last several years.

If mother Honda would introduce a new Goldwing interest and activity would expand quickly and significantly.

I've been looking at the new Indian Roadmaster...NICE! I wont be in the market for a couple more years but if I was in it now, the Wing would NOT be the bike I would buy. It has not changed in 12 years and is now outdated. I hope Honda will release a new Wing before the itch gets so bad I have to scratch it.

I bought my first Wing in March of 2012. Have over 61,000 miles on it now. If I can afford it in another 2-3 years, I will be looking for a new Wing. I wouldn't mind a little better front suspension but that's about it. I "love" mine. If they changed it much at all, I would look for something else. But withe the choices now, I would buy another wing just like the one I now have with mods in a heartbeat. I think it's the best looking BIG bike out there.

Gotta agree with some of the above. Just put mine away this past Saturday. I'm not sure a new goldwing would generate a lot of new members here. I think it's metrics in general. They the manufacturer, need to promote their brands better thru the dealer network. I know I won't be posting much because I'm not riding now till spring. The local Honda auto dealership is opening a powersports dealership after the 1st of the year. So that will give me something to do. The dealer I bought mine from is an hour away, so I likely won't be back there anytime soon. I envy you southern folks!

New Goldwing model = New members. The only way Honda will attract significant numbers of new customers is with a new model. They are selling Goldwings to the same group over and over, and that group is getting older. They need to attract new blood. The reason this forum is named "The GLForum" is in anticipation of a "GL2000" or "GL2200" or something along those lines. I just hope the next Goldwing is a "GL"

I am in the camp of, if they change it, I won't be buying another one. Loved my '03 and would probably have kept it but then I saw the NM4 and the mongrel that replaced the ST1300 and decided to buy another new Wing before they make it into something I don't want. Same looks is a plus in my book, not a negative.

Maybe some ads in google search or wing magazine would bring more people. when the search goldwing, gl1800 etc the ad for this site would be displayed. Just a thought

Well, there just ain't much to talk about. Since the "other" board cracked down on all the bs, name calling, and attacks, it has become pretty level too. Other than an occasional "help", post...not much. Nothing has changed for the 1800 in so long...except the price. I stopped in at a dealer in Springfield Saturday. A few wings, a couple of F6B's and some older "new" wings. I looked at one that was the top...air bag, ABS, etc, 2014. 30k.....not in my life time. One of the F6B's paint had a big scratch across the nose. The guy said it happened when they were dusting it off. He also showed me the swirls in the 2014 that was sitting there, he said done with a rag. The trim on the trunk on the blue one was all wavy too. More noticeable because of the dark color. Yeah....I know...it doesn't effect the way it runs, but IT DOES effect the value I would expect for my dollar and a supposedly "flag ship" motorcycle.
I actually think that it will be hard to get a board going. Honda wing sales have gotta be thru the floor. We hardly see any on the road any more. I dont know if it's because of rider age, boredom, dealer distrust so guys do all their own maintenance, price, no change in design, or all the above...........a big change from years past when the wing really WAS the king of the road.........

Kind of from the outside looking in perspective...

Not new to riding, but new to the Wing. I bought mine after my ST1300 was hit in the parking lot at work and needed a few weeks worth of estimates and parts. Since my wife and I already "eyed" a Wing during Daytona's Bike Week, she practically urged me to pull the trigger on a '13 level 2.

I haven't been on the ST since! Comfort, smooth, all the toys and remarkably a light feel for its weight, even in the tight quarters of my drive and garage. On the road at highway speeds it doesn't even compare. All this talk about a New Wing...lol Might be stale, but not to me!
One of my riding partners had me on a few of those liquid head Harleys and I still couldn't get myself to like it, even with the GPS, sound system, ect. After letting it rumble for a few minutes I could feel the heat coming off the motor. No wonder he won't ride when it's in the 90's.

Then there's the power! OK, not as quick as the ST (which I would consider an old man's crotch rocket), but plenty fast for my old ass.

The sound system is great, even at 80mph. The basics like heated seats and grips along with the foot warmers and wrap around fairing do extend the season. All of the Harley guys already stored theirs.

Sure a power windshield would be nice, just like I wish my D-Max would have a 7th gear, but I wouldn't trade it for a Powerstroke or Ram.

When I look at my parked Wing it brings a smile to my face, more so than the day I picked it up from the dealer. Maybe it's the 8000 miles I put on it since June and all the pictures I took of places we've been.

That being said, perhaps urging members to post pictures of rides, destinations and unusual sites encountered along the way...

I know the Forum is Tech based and all of my questions answered, but like mentioned above, most of the members are seasoned GL guys and already know the ins and outs of this machine and therefore less likely to post unless asked.

                          Just saying'...

Also will be slow for us that live in the northern section of the country until spring, WINTER has set in and motorcycles are put away.

I think that there are multiple issues here. One thing would certainly be a shrinking GW rider community. There just are not as many new GW riders each year as their used to be. Also, even the active computer / GW guys that do contribute to on-line communities are spread out across a number of boards and it is getting to the point there is so little new on each board, that they are not worth the time to visit.

One of the things that the old forums have going for them is a significant amount of historical information. If you use Google to search an old board for something like Traxion or Sena or even favorite tires, you will see lots of good information. Unfortunately, it takes a long time and tens of thousands of posts to generate that kind of a useful knowledge repository on a new board.
