  • It's not a motorcycle...

    ...but it has two wheels.

That does not even seem right. What kind of tires and speed rating can you put on a bike? That thing would be toast if he ever developed the wobble at those speeds.

Now I understand what the dictionary meant when I looked up the word idiot and it said
        "see Francois Gissy".

At what point does a bicycle become a motorcycle? Doesn't the heritage of our motorcycles include the fact that one time, someone took a normal bicycle, beefed it up, and put a motor in it? Is this device really any different?

In my mind, once you make a bicycle that is propelled by an engine, any type of engine, it is no longer a bicycle; but a motorcycle.

Yes, the tire thought crossed my mind as well. What bicycle type tires could withstand that speed?

I just thought it to be a fun something to watch, marvel and wonder at what some people experiment with and the results of their efforts. I am reading nothing further into the what ifs.
Is it a bicycle or motorcycle; it's your choice.

Definitely interesting to watch, but a lot of it is "presentation" and hype. If this were touted as a 'light-frame jet propelled cycle", it wouldn't be quite as eye-catching.

I'm reminded of when Evil Kneivel was going to jump the Snake River Canyon on a motorcycle (that tells my age, huh). I eagerly tuned in from my dorm lobby, and was sorely disappointed. It was essentially a rocket with two wheels. We've sent rockets to the moon and back.

as with most things, presentation is the package. I guess it's only how we each perceive and react to it.

i too remember the canyon attempt.

You are correct and I would imagine that the people of that time thought the idea to be just as craze as some of us think about this guy with the difference being that the original motorized bicycle would not go 200 mph!

As far as the tires go, you do have to wonder what he used. A good tire used on a racing bicycle has so little weight and mass that centrifugal force probably is not so much an issue, but I wouldn't want to trust my life on that.
