  • New HI Tech Helmet

I was watching the FOX Business channel and they had a segment on a new helmet. It is a Shark Helmet and it has a video camera that faces the rear and gives the rider a view of the rear via a heads up display. It also has a GPS with voice command in the HUD. Other options too. Introductory price $ 1399. Going to go up $100 later. Any body else seen this? I haven't looked into it because of the $$$.

I have seen it before somewhere. Pretty cool tech. It will be interesting to see how many early adopters buy into it. I think this is something Honda should have pioneered to integrate into the Goldwing with Bluetooth.

Neat helmet, but too rich for my blood since I replace my helmets every couple of years. I got the introductory email with all prices and said no thanks.

Sure add it the GW then (base) price would reflex all the added goodies so you would be paying for it even if you didn't want it - just like Getting a Free GPS with ABS

I was keeping an eye on the Skully has some very nice features but the price tag is way to steep for me also. The competition will catch up and the price will drop like everything else.

I'm wondering if one of these hi-tech helmet designs is eventually going to include "transplantable components" - EG visor display, cameras, gps units, etc.; which can easily be moved from one helmet to another of the same brand. I would be much more likely to consider a high-tech, high-dollar helmet if I knew that the expense of the electronics could be spread out over the life of 3 or 4 helmets.

I would be concerned about me looking at things other than where I am going, could be scary but still pretty neet stuff they are packing in there.

While some of this new gadgetry is cool where does it end. Guess I'm showing my age but where have the days gone where you just jump on your bike and enjoy the ride, sights, sounds, smells, etc without all the hi-tech stuff. Yes, I'm showing my age.

I still do that occasionally (don't tell any of the ATGATT folks on me). When I do, I'm almost awestruck at how much different the experience is when I'm not looking through the viewport of a full face helmet or hearing with my ears covered up.
