WOW! This is LA . . . what a pitiful police department, if you ask me. When dozens of crotch-rocket riders taunt & ride reckless with a police cruiser beside them & in pursuit, then your city police are no longer in control! That would NEVER happen in my city! Car drivers around them would run them into the curb at the very least! What an embarrassment to the police department, the police chief, and the mayor!

It should never happen or be tolerated in any city but here in L.A. you can get away with murder for the most part. If the cops are too rough they will be sued as you well know. Pathetic.

Don't blame the police for losing control, blame the court systems, and even the average every day law abiding citizen that lets the abuse happen. If the cops did anything to try to effectively stop them (other than chasing them, which is a contest they're not going to win) you can be there'd be lawsuits.

Need some motor cops to set up on them....In the old days a rope set up in front would take care of the pursuit but now the 'public' would be outraged. I don't blame the LEOs for not being more aggressive as they would get in trouble and even charged criminally...The LEOs tried their best but until there is public support, this will continue to happen...Especially when the riders 'get off' on making videos...

Look...it's bad times, don't get me wrong, but...

I know a few of us old-timers that might have fit this 'hooligan' category 30 or 40 years ago - seriously!

Azsandrider is right - back in the day, you knew the cops wouldn't put up long with that stuff, and would take you down - eventually. Back in our day, no cameras - just our word against theirs.

A few years back, a cop in our neighboring town to the west (Watauga, TX) tried to pull over a guy on a bike (with a passenger). He took off doing 60-80 down a neighborhood street. A cop at the last intersection on that street before it comes into our city limits was waiting for him with the street mostly blocked. The guy on the bike tried to swerve around him, and cop moved the car and nailed him. Actually, more accurately, he got in the way, and the bike nailed him.

The cop got in trouble, of course. I suppose what he was supposed to do was hold up a sign and say "stop pretty please".

Our court system, on these matters, boils down to one thing...our forefathers penned a wonderful document ensuring certain freedoms in the Bill of Rights. The associated individual responsibilities are only implied. The courts impart duties and responsibilities upon government, which are the police in this instance. This causes juries to judge the actions of government rather than the acts of an individual, which may be unlawful in nature.

If I'd have ever tried to outrun a cop, my folks would have left me in the jail cell to figure out how to get out on my own, and then I would have had to walk home because my bike or car would have long been sold.

actions in the video were a little more serious then just 'kids' goofing around.

If they were the only ones on a deserted road, I have no problem, but on a city street with other people around, PROBLEM! They don't own that road and other people could get hurt.
