  • What features should the 40th Anniversary 2015 Goldwing have?

We might as well get this one started. I would think we will see the 2015 introduced any day now.

Here is what I would LIKE to see:
    • Power windscreen
    • Bluetooth
    • Traction control
    • Better intercom
    • Better paint quality
    • Better suspension
    • New trunk designed to match saddlebags
    • And, dare I say a 6th gear

Here is what I think we can reasonably EXPECT to see:
    • Bluetooth

The reason I say it is reasonable to expect Bluetooth is because the CTX1300 has it. Not sure how much longer Honda's flagship bike can not have something a less expensive bike offers. I am not sure if the addition of Bluetooth would be enough to motivate me to move to a 2015.

Also, what if Honda offered a dealer-installed "Handling Package" for $2,000 which included stiffer front fork springs, new triple trees and tapered bearings. Basically, a full-monty (less the rear shock) but dealer installed and covered under Honda warranty. Seems like that would be a money maker for Honda.

The only thing needed on the 2015 model is 2 Run flat tires

Fully integrated Bluetooth intercom system and 6th gear would be awesome. A 6th gear would be the only thing that would entice me at all to even think about trading my 08.

        Bluetooth
Adjustable windshield (motor operated or manually adjustable while on the move)
Optional auto transmission or CV transmission
A larger top trunk that would easily fit two full face helmets.

I have owed every Goldwing Honda has released except the 1100 and guys, there have been many changes, some good and some not so good but to me the only thing I'd like to see is a little more wind protection for the passenger. My co-rider has said this Goldwing is by far the most turbulent we have owned. I have added the mirror wings and set the windshield is set to the top. She said it helped but it's not close to the protection of the others.

I will not buy another new wing until they put at least a real overdrive (6th gear) in it to make use of all that low end torque,, I am saving to buy a 1986 SEi just to keep that itch scratched since that was my favorite wing of all the 10 I have owned . Right now I riding a CTX1300 with aftermarket cruise control, taller windshield,, factory Bluetooth, Garmin590 with built in REAL time TPMS, and VIRB wireless video camera, plus a bridgestone drive guard,,,,,And best of all it gets about 52 mpg on cruise at 70. That alone is saving me almost 275 dollars on my next ride.

The regional rep who showed up at the grand opening of Clinton cycle Honda stated Honda was NOT having n any major changes until 2017 model... Flat screen adjustable info control screen, SIXTH gear, full blue tooth stereo control . I should have over 70,000 miles on my CTX by then

I disagree that a power windscreen should be a factory item, at least not a "forced" option (in other words, it shouldn't automatically be included with any of the standard levels, if they stick with that format). I just don't think it would be used enough to make it worth the forced cost. I look at that sort of like a CB radio. In my opinion, too expensive for what little it's used. Having it as an OEM dealer add-on would give it the "Honda name" (for those to whom that's important), but still let those that don't want the weight and expense to pass (FWIW, I think the CB is overpriced, but I I bought one, I wouldn't buy an electric windshield).

I don't know that we need a 6th gear, but as long as they didn't monkey around too much with the lower gears, I'd be OK with it. I don't want to have to be shifting through 6 gears for < 40 mph around town traffic.

I like the idea of a suspension package, but I'd want to see it available at all levels.

I think we're going to also see LED lighting, for the same reason you mentioned - it's on the CTX.

              Edit
I almost forgot. EVERY model should have ABS, at least as an option (I really sort of expect to see it by default on every model). I'm likely to be buying in 2016, and I again will refuse to pay extra for an expensive (unwanted) nav system just to get ABS.

I would settle for decent paint and a trunk that matches the saddlebags. Until then I will keep the 2008.

I know from my reads that Honda had lots of trouble with their three wheel ATV's in the past, but as the population gets older,
I think Honda should produce a trike from their present Goldwing platform.

Also it's puzzling to me why Honda is producing/refining/changing their other bikes and ignoring the Goldwing.
Either the next Goldwing is going to be something special or the division is for sale.
                  Just my 2c.

IMO The front suspension needs major improvement. Many buy new bikes then spend thousands on Traxxion upgrades etc. Crazy to buy a new bike and spend extra money to get it to ride nice

Unfortunately, I think all we are going to see is an anniversary badge and a higher price . . .

I agree 100% with badge year and a higher price. It is too soon after the 2012 "revamping" to do much else. personally speaking if they do much else to it, it would only take away from the bike.

I think Mytee Hercules is probably the closest to the reality. First of all, planning for a new bike had to begin a couple years ago for 2015 so most of what is said above very late in the planning process. Second, I am not sure the Gold Wing market is what is used to be, has it gone flat? Third, is Honda really going to try to compete with the BMW 1600 GTL---I am just not sure they see this as a good way to sell more motorcycles. Honda seems to be headed off after new markets that may not include the USA and if they are content with Gold Wing sales, why invest in improving the bike.

Now I sincerely hope I am wrong and in about 6 months we see a brand new 2015 Gold Wing that is lighter, more agile, and contains most of the improvements suggested here especially ABS on all models. Perhaps even allowing you to custom order your new Wing to be built with the options you specify.

Sorry guys, but being fairly new to Goldwings (purchased a used 2008 last year), not sure what you mean about the trunk not matching the saddlebags. Is that just on the newer models? By the way, looking forward to learning great stuff on this new forum. Thanks in advance.

On the 2012 and newer models they changed the lower saddle bags and tail lights, but did nothing to the upper Trunk and lights.A really odd look if you ask me.(I have a 2014) Also in 12 they for some reason or another put the radio controls down on lower left faring, and put a near useless cubby compartment in its place.(Not accessable while riding and its right in front of you.) They also installed a rather annoying throttle stumble that although only happens when engine is still a bit cool, it should not happen at all. This problem is different for every bike it seems.

                              I'd like the power windscreen
                              Bluetooth
                              Suspension

I'd also like (as long as I'm fantasizing) For Honda to include an optional Russell day long saddle.

Honda kept the rounded styling of the 01 thru 10 trunks and redesigned the saddle bags with sharper angles. That wouldn't have bothered me much, but I think the changes in the rear lighting were a huge step backwards.
One of the first things that got my attention when the 1800 was released was how the four large tail lights made the bike so noticeable from the rear.
I hope they bring back better lighting, but not a big deal to me, I have my 2010 the way I want it and don't see buying a new one any time soon.

Instead of going through a list of specifics..... I would like to see a total over haul, like the difference between the 1500 and the 1800

Electronic rear suspension similar to the K1600 GTL. Sport, Normal and Comfort settings. It's bliss...

Inverted and BEEFIER fork and adequate triple tree with better bearings.

                                    6 speed transmission.

Throttle by wire system. Antiquated push pull cables have got to go. Which makes possible........

Seamless cruise control and dead throttle grip. See TBW above.

                                    Traction control. See TBW above.

                                    Bluetooth/better intercom system.

                                    Roomier rider's triangle/leg room.

Integrated riders backrest slot in seat like every other touring bike.

Better control of turbulence/buffeting. Power windscreen and fairing design. Windshield air pass through like HD and Victory.

                                    Side opening trunk.

HID/LED lighting all the way around standard.

Cylinder deactivation cruise mode for increased MPG.

Easier air filter access. Pop off a panel and slide it out of a tray type of thing.

Give it a distinctive exhaust note. Doesn't have to be loud. A kind of low frequency, 6 cylinder purr would be neat. :-)

A world class paint job in some beautiful colors.

Better fit and finish similar to HD.

Wide angle rear view camera. Great for backing out of places where side vision is obscured like in a parking lot.

                                    Blind spot warning system.
