  • When do you take your trip(s)?

Just curious, what are the months when you are most likely to take a long-distance (2 days or longer) road trip on your motorcycle?

Always used to take our family vacations the early part of August. The last 2 years my wife and I have gone over the 4th of July, as this allows me to tack on an extra day due to the holiday. The first time we did this I was fully prepared for there to be extra traffic because of the holiday but, leaving home on the 4th, we found the traffic to be better with less big rigs on the road. It was the same again this year.

Being retired now it is when ever now. Typically I take one in July and September. Why. Well wife taught and ridding buddy wife teaches thus the July time. I always ride to one of OU's football teams road game in September. Been to UCLA, Norte Dame, and WVU. Going to The Tennessee game next year. I have now added March to the mix since another friend bought a condo in Daytona Beach so we will now go to bike week for the entire week with no lodging worries. No security issues either as it is gated. What a deal!

We took one this last July and it was quite warm to say the least. We usually go in the first part of October as we are doing in another week for a ride up to Oregon and then down the coast to home again. This time of year at least on the west seems to be the best for weather and less traffic all around.

May through October - whenever the opportunity presents itself. Next one in Oct. One after that probably not again until May or June (finances and leave dependent).

Right after Labor Day is my favorite time for an LD trip as the weather is still good and the crowds are gone. Love that time of year.

I typically line mine up with federal holidays, and sometimes take an extra day off to turn a 3 day holiday into a 4. I think the only month I won't do that is December, I use that for Christmas and family.

I really can't vote in this poll. I ride year round. Unless there is ice on the road, any destination, be it for work or pleasure, is fair game any month of the year.

2 trips to Alaska. One in 2012 and one this summer 2014. Both in June. Most years a 2 or 3 week ride end of June or in July. Be safe and enjoy the ride. Larry

If I knew it would've last this long I would've taken better care of it.

I generally avoid July, August and first three weeks of September. Not much fun when it is hot enough to melt rocks.

Always do at least one week in the Spring and one week in the Fall. Except this year...leaving for the Bahamas tomorrow, first non-riding vacation in quite some time.

We have traveled most of the big holidays through the years. Now it's usually before Memorial Day and after Labor Day when there's not so many people and the prices are lower.

I usually head west, so the earlier the better.

It depends upon my destination as to when I go. If I go to Washington State and the Pacific Northwest, which I like to do about every other year, it's always in July/August. That's when the weather there is most desirable for riding. If I am going to Texas, it's in mid-March to mid-April for the same reason. Up here in the Northeast, anytime between the end of April and early November is perfect.
