I do not care for the odds in my state, and I have almost hit 2 of them. I will be on edge in a few weeks as I go up the state again.

They are a real hazard where I live year round. I've come close on the bike but so far no deer. Hit several in my cages though.

Arizona #50...I like that. Even though I tend to see one or two every weekend. They don't seem to spoke or run in herds like some other states.

I thought Texas would have been higher up than it was. I bet the people that did the study have never been to the Hill Country!

Isn't this the point where someone starts a "Do Deer Warning Whistles Really Work?" thread?

One of the reasons I just installed these new LED fog/driving lights is because, even though they don't put that much light down the road, they scatter a lot of light off to the sides of the road. I also heard a rumor that deer do not like the white light that an LED puts out compared to the yellowish light of a halogen. Not sure I buy that one, but it makes me feel better.

Ok, I'll say it. DC a state? And I've only actually hit them in NC. 3 over the years - luckily all with cars. I almost got one on the Blue Ridge Parkway both last year and this year.

I will add something about Deer Alerts.
Years ago, all the sheriff depts in northern Wisconsin installed them on the cars to do a test.
They found out that they don't work.

Some sobering statistics according to Wisconsin's DOT site:

69.9% of MC deer collisions result in fatality.

I have found Playing my Music set on 25 will keep most deer on the side of the road (I use that as a my deer whistle) However it won't stop a Running deer being chased by hunting dogs (when in season) here the starts in Nov thru Jan - No amount of light will help with that either - it won't even seen'em coming

I live in an area with a very high population of deer, full time year round herd. It's been my experience deer that are standing still or feeding on the side of the road are not the dangerous ones. Even deer that are meandering across the road will give you time to react. Every deer I have had an encounter with have been on a dead run and just "popped"out at the side of the road. No time to do anything, and "whistles" will do nothing.

That's a scary stat. Most of my riding is south west WI. I don't ride at night anymore. On the back roads that are tree lined I keep my speed down. I have "deer fear" more than I used to. There are just more of them out there now.

All I know is the one that got me it was about 2 p.m. in the afternoon on Highway 21 on the way to Beaufort. Those you see are not a danger, it is the one you do not see that gets you.

There was no deer there, nope, none at all, but it was just a flash from the right side as it landed two feet in front of the bike as it hit the road. Not much you can do when you do not see it.

There is not even much time to say...........Oh.........Chit.

You guys need to mount up a street sweeper automatic shotty loaded with 00's .
Twin would be good. Keep it balanced somewhat.
                                    Now that's a good farkle.
