  • Which GPS.

Which GPS do you use and why? Would you buy new or use an older version if you could find it for a decent used price?

Now I use my built-in NAVI on my 2012. But, before that I was using a Zumo 550 which I loved. I stupidly sold my Zumo with my 2007. I wish I had it back.

I use a Zumo 665, because research convinced me it was the best overall for MC use. Bought it refurbished because I got a good deal (about $550 at the time). Maybe I'm a marketing lemming, but I believe the GPS designed for motorcycle use are the better choice.

I have a Zumo 665 also. I subscribe to weather and traffic but not XM. Really like the weather. Also like programming my routes on the notebook and loading them into the gps. That let's me enjoy the ride instead of worrying about the next turn.

Can you watch weather while moving? On the 2012 Nav unit it only shows weather when stopped! Really stupid programming- hate the unit.

I too have weather and traffic, but not the XM radio itself. And yes, you can "watch" the weather while moving, but I've had to use it so infrequently, I can't comment a lot on how effect it is. I've not had weather on a long road trip with it yet, but it when it alerts me to local weather conditions on my daily commute, I can switch over and see the movement.

I just use the built in GPS on my bike. I know there are better alternatives, but I only use it for point to point navigation and like not having to mount an external GPS.

I have a Zumo 660, didn't need the XM etc. Other than difficult to see in bright sunlight it does the job for me. Love the lane assist feature that shows you what lanes to use for your next exit, road transition etc. YMMV, this one works for me. Programming issues with this unit are another story. Hope this helps.

Garmin 390 with tire pressure monitor. Very expensive, but I would absolutely buy again.

I have been using the Garmin Zumo 550 for the past 8 years, and I love it. Garmin even did a replacement with a refurbished model...for free...after the lightning strike incident. If I ever had a need to replace my Zumo 550, I would buy the new Zumo 390, which...was designed to replace the 550, after the 350 did not attract enough buyers, and previous Zumo 550 buyers did not like the new Zumo 660 or 665. The new Zumo 390 utilizes everything that a rider needs, in the styling and function of the older Zumo 550.

I have the Zumo 665 and it has working amazingly well for over 2 years. I am looking to upgrade to the Zumo 590 with tire sensors. I have heard nothing but great reviews on the new Zumo!

                        I have a 550 and a 660. The 660 has more features but I love my 550.
When I hit the lottery I will buy a 590.

I have the Zumo 665, and am very pleased with it. Screen visibility is good, especially when using a Glare Stomer visor. Would have gone with a Zumo 660, but wanted the XM radio feature that the 665 has.

I have and like my older waterproof Garmin 2720. It came with my 03 and I transferred it to the 08 when I traded up. Unfortunately, while the lifetime updater (still) remains valid, Garmin no longer services this model. When they made that announcement I bought another 2720 for next to nothing and added lifetime update to it as well. I'll hang with these for a while.

However, if I were making a recommendation to someone who does not have one, I'd recommend one of the newer waterproof versions. Jump in with both feet and start with a newer model.

Been using a Nuvi 550(waterproof motorcycle unit)that came with a Ram mount and a car dash mount that I purchased new delivered to my door for approx. $275.I wish I had've bought two of them.Biggest downfall is no Bluetooth, but for a fraction of the cost of the Zumo I can live with it.

I would look at the post to see which models are the most popular, there has to be a reason for them being the favorite. Then I would go to Garman web site and do a comparison of the top ones. Then select the one that fits your needs for a GPS.

Anyone know of a Garmin after the 2700/2800 StreetPilots that uses the same connector?

I use the GPS on the bike but I hate the fact that when she wants to talk she interrupts all communication. I use it for the how many miles to the destination more than anything. I pretty much know where I am going and many times on the ride I change the route, sometimes for traffic, other times weather or maybe I just want to, LOL!!
