My wife and I are on a trip to New Mexico and her helmet lost the screw out of the left side of the helmet. We got a machine screw and washer at the local hardware store, but now the "modular" part of the helmet won't close properly. The internal sun visor works fine, but we can't get that other part to close. We just bought the helmet a few months ago and I've already talked with the dealer we bought it from about getting it fixed, but that won't help us for now. Anyone else had this problem before and/or know of a fix? I'm afraid something else besides the machine screw fell out somewhere.

Sounds like a Warranty Deal any good Motorcycle Super Store out that way may be able to help you out or even swap it out for you. Nolan is a good company i would start calling around maybe you'll get some help that way. That screw is most likely sticking out past the original and is stopping the modular mount and pivot assembly from closing. On the road a way to cut a screw off to length easily is to buy a cheap electrical crimp tool that has various screw threads, metric most likely on that helmet, screw the fastener into the crimper and cut it off.
Screw is most likely stopping the pivot assembly from closing. Sticks out and blocks the hinge.

I appreciate the tips guys. We tried backing that screw out; even taking it all the way out and it still won't close properly. The machine screw we bought is essentially holding the modular part in place for now. The wife says she's OK just riding with it open and the inner shield down. (That's how she rides most of the time anyway!) We'll be home tomorrow and I'll take the helmet back the next day.Ron - Montrose, CO
