  • What would you do...

Back in '06 I bought some chrome highway pegs, rider foot pegs (iso wings), and passenger transformer floorboards. All are from Kuryakyn. Now, after almost 8 years the chrome is just starting to pit and look generally shabby. Would you have them rechromed or toss them and buy new? At this point, I have no idea the cost of rechromeing vs buying new. Also, I don't want to debate the quality of Kuryakyn over another brand.

Re-chroming is not cheap. It is probably cheaper to buy new. You are lucky, My Kury stuff starts pitting after only 2 years! They have pretty cheap chrome on many of their items. If you are willing to spend the money, and use a good chrome shop, like Pauls Chrome, you will definitely notice a difference in quality.

You might want to try the black powder coated Kury's instead. Enough people start avoiding their chromed products then maybe they'll quit using cheap out sourced out of country labor and processes on their high priced items.

Add another voter for powdercoat. I've already started powdercoating some of my kury chrome to black and I think it looks ten times better and it should last longer.

I would try to sell them and buy new. I just don't have the time to find a chrome shop, drive them over there, wait, go pick them up. How about Mic-O-Pegs?

I have the Kury foot pegs for me and the Kury foot boards for my wife. They were put on my new 06 trike and still look like new.

If you decide to buy new, offer the old for sale, with full disclosure and pics of what's wrong with them. You will likely find a buyer that will buy them as is so they can powder coat them.

I too have the Kury transformers and the ISO's up front on my 05' but the chrome show no signs of pitting yet. I agree with hparsons though, sell the old ones before buying the new ones. Then I think you'll be happy, happy happy!

If you got 8 years out of Kury chrome, you did better than I ever have.
I agree with others on powder coating or paint. In fact, but for pegs, I just prepped them and used bed liner.

These pegs lasted through two Goldwings and would be on the one I own now if the last bike had not been in my garage when it burned.

Kury has such a bad rep for cheap chrome that the few things I have gotten from them, I painted black before I ever put them on the bike.

I sold my rusty fork brace that way and buyer was a lot more happier than I was.

I'm sure its a crap shoot on what quality of chrome goodies you'll get from Kuryakyn as they probably have tried different chroming businesses over time. At one time their chrome products were junk and then their was a definite improvement. What you get now....who knows.
