Not really sure when this started, and guess it was a few years after I had been out riding, but from time to time I have the pleasure of being asked to help someone with a disability on how they too can begin to, or return to enjoying something that they loved or want to try. As I have learned more about this bike/trike, and expanded on my knowledge of accommodations, it has been a blast to share that. On many occasions I would get PM's, emails and the like from many different individuals. I clearly remember the day when I first had my buddy Bob toss me the keys to the Goldwing he has sitting in his garage.
Recently I got word that a Marine who had lost both his legs above the knee from and IED while serving in Iraq was inteested in getting back onto a bike. My information was passed along and I found out that he lived in Mobile, AL. We spoke over the phone and I told him that I was down in Florida, but was getting ready to head to a Trike gathering in Nashville and what was a little detour to allow him the chance to give this big girl of mine a go. So, updated the route and while it was HOT having the GPS take me straight through town, I found my way over to where we agreed to meet and had the chance to put a handshake on this true American Hero.

How many of you guys think you can throw you leg over the saddle like this. LOL

There is no question that I am a better man for having the chance to meet this Marine and spend some time helping him out with this quest to get back onto riding. A detour well worth the miles and smiles.
