  • Heading out in the morning

My son and I are leaving in the morning for 3 days. He and I both are due for some riding time and it may as well be in the mountains around Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. He hasn't been on the Dragon, so this will be a first for him. Don't think he's done Cherohala Skyway either. Hope to have a few pics when we get back.

This was our ride last Thursday. Cherokee to 28 to the Dragon to Vonore via 129 to Tellico Plains to Cherohala Skyway to Wayah to Franklin and back up part of Moonshine 28 to get back to Cherokee. 233 miles - what a blast!!

Semper Fi I belong to the Kokomo, IN Legion Riders. Have you been to the Rolling Thunder ride to the wall in Washington?

Not yet. For the past four years as the crowds headed to DC, I've been heading to KY to do an annual ride with a brother through the beautiful fragrance of horse country. I'll do DC either this coming year or the next. I want to do it, but really don't want to sit through half a day of shuffling the bike along in the crowd, so I've been putting it off until a couple friends also were ready to go.

Did you do this year's Legacy Ride? We rode with it from Pikeville to Gastonia.

Sounds like you are enjoying retirement. I am at the point in my riding career that the old body just doesn't tolerate distance riding. Our chapter did manage to staff a planed fuel stop on the Legacy Ride to hand out cold bottled water on last year's ride, I am also the king of the fair weather riders. Kokomo, IN recently finished a nice shelter for homeless vets and we do fund raiser rides to help keep it operational. I am also a member of the Miami County Military Rites team. Belonging to vet organizations tends to keep me in the riding loop.

Well we made it home late yesterday afternoon (28th). We had a great time riding in and over the mountains. Time well spent. Anyone going in the near future, they are working on the road right-of-way on Ware's Valley Rd. in preparation to sting new power lines. You can expects delays.. It was a 750 mile round trip for us.

Best of all I get to do it another time this year. I have a younger son that hasn't rode in the mountains yet. He's too busy cutting grass, so it looks like we will be pushing an Oct. trip for him. Which will be fine with me.
