  • Oregon Ride

I am planning on a week long ride starting October 4th that will go north around the west side of Lake Tahoe, through Reno and continue up to Crater Lake. After spending a little time around that area we are heading to Coos Bay and then down the coast along route 1 all the way back to Cambria. My question is this, does anyone know what the weather is like at that time of year? We usually go in the first part of October for nice long rides and the weather has never disappointed us but I am not familiar with Oregon.

Flip a coin as to the weather because you can encounter rain, beautiful sunshine, and a light dusting of snow is a possibility in the Crater Lake area. Do not leave home without your rain-gear. I'll talk to the weather gods for you but doubt they will listen. :D Enjoy the trip, Crater Lake is a must see and the color of the water is unbelievable.

I can not open your attachment for some reason, blank page comes up. As far as rain gear, I guess I better invest in some for the wife and me just in case it gets ugly.

Thats odd, it opens up for me on my computer and their is also a smaller picture of the scene showing in that thread. Somebody with more computer smarts than me will have to explain why.

I don't get it, I have a home computer and my work computer and neither one opens up this link, or a couple of other attachments in other topics either.

Oregon is beautiful country. I have only ridden a bit of the southern part of the state...Crater Lake. Amazing!

As Road Rat says, can be a crap shoot. My wife and I took an RV trip up the Oregon coast a few years back in October and it was beautiful, in the 70s and blue sky every day. Climbed that tower in Astoria, and could swear I could see a thousand miles in every direction.

Early October should still be nice weather and hopefully no smoke from forest fires. A little early in the season for rain but it's good to pack the gear.

Here are two stops on your way north that are worth a few minutes to check out. Bring a flashlight for Subway cave (old lava tube) it's free and only takes 15 minutes to check out.

I have been to those caves before just south of Hat Creek, pretty impressive. We are heading up 139 past Eagle Lake and up past Goose Lake then west through Beatty Oregon on the 140 as somebody on our ride has a friend up there to visit for a quick stop. We will spend the night in Klamath Falls maybe at the Running Y Ranch.

Yes that tower is really neat. Another good site to see in Astoria is the Maritime Museum, lots of good history and another neat thing to do is ride the bridge from Astoria over to the WA side.( Hwy 14) You start up high on the Astoria side and keep getting lower & lower and you almost get the feeling that you are going to ride right into the water. When you do level out you're not that far off the water.

Question for others that have opened up this thread. Can you see the pic of the OR coastline that I posted and can you also open up the attachment. Just curious as it does show on my computer.

RoadRat, yes on both counts--able to see the pix, and could open the attachment. Also, as previously stated, be prepared for any kind of weather in October when on the Oregon Coast. We've experienced some of the best weather on the Coast in October--in the 80's for temp., sunny, and no wind. But, this is Oregon--you never know.

I am using chrome and I can not open anyone's attachments regarding pictures. As I mentioned, it is not only this thread but others that have put attachments.

I just closed out and opened up in IE and the pictures come through loud and clear. That is strange but I did now see your Oregon Coast picture as well as all the others that I could not open. What is the deal with chrome and firefox?

So to make things even stranger than they already are regarding attachments, If I log in while on IE again I can not open attachments but as soon as I log off I can view them. Now I am going to log off chrome and see what happens.

Try logging off and open attachments, it works for me in both IE and Chrome, I log back on and they will not show.
