Guess I won't be making it, woke up with ice on on the roads and about a 1/2 inch of snow on top of that.

Did anyone show up for this event? I was thinking of riding out there but there was such a lack of information to be found anywhere I decided not to bother. Besides, I do not like to go anywhere near Hollywood at any time or day, really not my idea of a motorcycle ride.

While searching for something else, I ran across this thread...

So, this is a gathering of the Iron Butt faithful...I notice it's not on the '15 calendar (...and hope it might be)

From NinjaBoy's (Dean Tanji) epic description: "Pink's is an honest-to-goodness Hollywood icon, sub-cultural gathering spot and past IBR bonus location. The establishment doesn't know we are coming nor do they care. Whether you're Mike Kneebone, Barack Obama, Lisa Landry, Kim, Khloe, Kourtney or Elvis, everyone waits in line. And the 1-hour+ wait at midnight for a $3.45 chili dog is a unique Hollywood experience."

I have the privilege of riding west with FlyGuy405 (Marc) and TexasT (Brian) and his bride back in 2011 - let's just say it's no big deal for the assembled masses to just knock-off an easy SS1000 just to attend this event. Most, however, are some of the SoCal LD elite - and they're nice enough to let some regular guys and gals show up and hang out as well.

Now, I bring up all of this because my son & daughter-in-law moved to SoCal earlier this year. On the way to their place - I drove right byPink's!! They are less than 3 miles from this fine establishment!

So....there *is* a chance that - depending upon the timing of the event (typically weekend two in November, it seems...), there may just have to be a ride to Pink's, an overnight at the kid's place, then a ride back home - and work on Monday.

So, I'm now going to run over the the Iron Butt forum and ask a question.

According to Ira, it's the 21st this year. It seems that there's some discussion on the Book of Face - or at least there has been in past years.

I wonder if this will get some more publicity somewhere than it did last year. Seemed like a dead issue a year ago.

As mentioned, I think it's more on Facebook...

The spelling of the event seems to be critical; get it wrong, and you could end up in some strange places. :D

Keep bumping it to the top may help.

For the handful of folks that hangout here...but there's a lot of other riders on other brands of motorcycle....

Various versions of the bikes Hergestellt in Deutschland and LD steeds built by that piano manufacturer that took up motorcycles after WWII tend to also be there.

I looked at that FB as well as the Pinks site and see really nothing about this years ride. I do see some info about past years but that seems like all there is.

Pink's? They really have no idea the group is coming - apparently, they just show up, we put 30+ motos int he parking lot and fill the place that way.

As of yet it's not posted on the IBA site that I can see. Hopefully they'll get it posted soon.

I'm not a member of the FJR Forum, but Ninja Boy is the instigator of that ride - someone might want to poke at him and find out...but...if Ira from the IBA says it's a go, then I'm pretty sure it's a go.

Right now, we're about a 60% for 'go' on that - and it'll probably be 2-up.

Think we should have a new thread about this, or just keep things going on a year-old one?

Any reasonably decent motels close to there? ones I been looking at don't have too good of reviews.

                              Well...

When I went in 2011, TexasT and Flyguy stayed in Ontario - near the airport as I recall.

I had some points/credit I needed to use or lose, so I had picked a place over in Pomona instead. The gang met me at where I was at, then we took off for the fun times around 9:30-ish or so. Took 45 minutes or so to get there. Yes, you notice that you're 40 miles and an hour or more away (traffic depending) on some pretty wicked freeways - makes riding in Death Valley in February look like a nice, causal ride.

You might consider broadening your search, as there's next to nothing really close to that area. If it was me, I'd consider looking at Burbank, Pasadena, maybe Alhambra to begin with.

A man of your wealth and esteem, you may also want to consider Van Nuys or North Hollywood. Remember, the closer you get, the $$$ goes up - way up.

A 2 minute search on Kayak seems to put the 2 star rate at $70 - $100 a night - you'll be in some of the communities I've mentioned above, so have fun studying the map for your options.

Let me drop another quick comment here...

I spoke to my son about the guest lodging situation in the area where he lives. There's expensive, then there's crazy expensive, so I kinda let it go at that. My answer above may be the best bet for this. Making the reservation more than two weeks out tends to get you the best rates in many places.

Well, I have my reservations made and it looks like the weather may cooperate out here in Utah's Area 51. There'll be 3 of us from Utah/Idaho.

                                NIce!

Marc & I along with our spouses will be leaving Sat AM from Chandler.

Plan is to have dinner with my son, maybe try an quick nap, then over to Pink's later Sat evening for the festivities.

The weather should be nice this weekend, so nice that I am heading south with some others to enjoy the area around Warner Springs south of Temecula. Down that way is open country with cattle and few cars on the road. Enjoy your ride.
