Heading out in a few on a three day ride to Colorado Springs, for three days of business and a three day ride home....assuming I can get out of eastern NC.

Made it out here. I didn't break out the laptop on the way - sorry. Getting out of eastern NC was interesting. Had to deviate the route several times to make it out onto where I-40 was open, and then had to deviate up in the Benson area because both I-95 and the state routes through there were closed off. Otherwise, a good ride. Over in VA I went down to Abingdon and caught US 19/Alt 58 up to and through Ky to home (Mom's). Excellent ride and I missed most all the rain I rould have ridden through if I had gone I-77/64.

Day 2 was rain all the way across Ky until about ~30 minutes into IN. It wasn't bad though, because I was prepared for it. Had to go interstate that day because of the distance and time, but it was a good Sunday level of traffic on 64. As I got to Kansas City there was a major delay just as we were to get onto 670, but as I came up to it....so did a local Mountie with lights flashing, siren wailing and leading two (I assume) state-owned SUV's. Out of the blue, the three had a red Goldwing in trace zipping along with them. Hey, I pulled off to let them pass. Nothing said I had to stay there.

Today we took the long way from Salina over to the Springs by way of Great Bend. Rode over on 140, 156, 96, 287 and 94. There was rain coming into the Springs, but we were lucky and zipped in between the bands. Oh, forgot to mention I picked up my older son in Salina. He had ridden over on his 04 Fatboy and rode the final leg with me.

Anywho, have to park the bike for the next three days and then will get back out of here on the return ride starting Friday. After hard days cleaning up after the hurricane so I could leave (over 12 pick-up loads of pine crap out of an acre of yard), then three relatively hard days riding, I do feel a bit rode hard and put away wet... but I also wish I was up riding in those mountains these next three days. I may have to sneak out early one day.

Yep. Today's ride over from Colorado to Kansas was nearly 30 degrees colder than expected and almost kinda sorta drizzly. However, tomorrow's ride out of Kansas will definitely be wet.

Lucked out getting out of Kansas. It was a hair warmer and all the rain had already gone when I pulled out for KY. It was still a long ride, but was uneventful. The ride from KY back down to NC was along the same route down 15, 19 and Alt 58 that I had ridden up. I definitely have a new favorite route going home to my mother's. And it's only 45 minutes longer than the fastest route. Good to go!
