It appears that the number of people leaving the old board is increasing. There seem to be very few new threads being created over there. Personally, I think it is a shame that we are probably going to end up with another splinter int the GL1800 community. Some will stay on both boards, some will stay on the old board and some will leave the old board completely coming here. Then there will be others who think it is just too much hassle and they will just drop off altogether. I think currently total of the posts on both boards is less than what we saw 2 months ago on the old board alone. I'm hoping that the community can stay mostly intact, but I suspect we will end up with some nice folks getting lost along the way.

I think most members who are interested in valuable discussion will eventually make it over here. True, they may stay involved with both boards, but I also am active on others at times. To me I find the boards that are most active and informative and that is where I spend most of my time and this place is certainly heading in that direction. It is nice to see so many members who were banned for one stupid reason or another come here and start to be active again.

Not sure how long you been around but for those who are new in these parts........It started when Hal sold Direct line to a new player. Now remember that Hal was the major sponsor of the site. The new owner just didn't have what it takes to operate a great business that was founded by a great guy and family. With that said, the new owner dropped sponsorship and Lamont was on his own. I don't blame him for selling. From there things went down hill with nothing but ad's, pop ups and a owner who was money driven. They could have cared less about Gold Wings.

I think I got that right in the short form.

Now on to a reply to your post. I'm glad someone had the balls to start a new 1800 forum so we can all have a fresh start. I don't feel bad in the least about that board and if it would shut down because of lack of interest, the same old posts, or the lack of income..........so be it.

Now I have taken a few jabs at Chris in the past and I want to say here..... I wish him all the best and I hope he has learned from others mistakes.

Its probably because the most opinionated posters are also the most active posters and most all of them have been banned there.

I think you have hit the nail on the head. Nothing was the same at DLP when Hal left. I hope I have learned from others mistakes, but I am sure I will make my share. I am going to rely on a lot of the "old guys" to keep me in line.

I was one of the doubters when you were thinking of creating your videos. I did, however encourage you to pursue it. I'm very glad you did, and it appears you're doing pretty well with it. This site is a blessing, coming right at the time the other board was getting bad very quickly.

I said as much in a post that I directed to the admin there a couple of weeks ago...it seemed to be summarily ignored by him and most others. Sadly, the prophecy is coming true.

To networkguy3 - This isn't the first splintering of Goldwing forums; and maybe it won't be the last. There's another form that many of the real old timers know about that was related to GL1800 discussions, and at one time, it was a pretty happening place.

It's still out there - probably 2/3'rds of the readers today have never heard of the place.

This is all cyclic in nature...as long as the smart kids still come around, many of us not-so-smart-kids will follow. :D

You are, for one, for starting this board at such an opportune time.

From the looks of whose on board so far, you have many of the "smart kids" already. The rest will follow as soon as others see they are missed.

The real genius is to allow them to be "kids" and not let their "smart" get too distracting. My advise would be to consult with Lamont, if possible, that "other" board worked best when he ran it the way he saw best.

That board started dieing when Hal left, just took a couple of years for BM to wreck it.
The new guy's are just giving it the death rattle.

When people call me that (and believe it or not, it happens from time to time), I just think back on the times that others have said I have a big one. So, the biggest part of me is smart.

                      I can live with that.

Looks like the 'smart kids' comment came close to the mark.

This is mostly entertainment to those of us who read and partake of the festivities here. I'm told some take this stuff a bit too literally and a bit too seriously...after all, this is the Internet, its all true, right???

LOL, well ya got me buddy . . . . LOL. I have, in fact, been referred to on many occasions as being "a kid at heart," as well as a . . . . . . . . a few times Yes, guilty as charged with being one that offers up a quick smile and while some might want to quickly sit down before reading this, a "kind word." I tried . . . once . . .to see if I could take life seriously and I honestly did not like it very much. I saw many who appeared to struggle with what were things that "I" would simply laugh at. Like all this talk about, "having a bad day." Really??? I shared with our kids that at the beginning of each day, that "you" (they) have a choice. Is it going to be a bad day.....or....is it going to be a good day. I chose good. Now of course I could be like "some" able-bodied types and grumble I guess about such things as what socks to wear, or my knee hurts, or try and justify on the internet some pathetic excuse for "needing a crutch" in my life to help me "cope with life," or . . . .well . . . .you know. But on a great many days (not all mind you), I seem to make that choice of it being a good day, and loving the chance to put a smile on someone's face. Many have read my writings on this thing called the internet and I think I have done that . . . . . . otherwise, I get banned, LOL.

"Entertainment ya say" . . . . OH HECK YEAH, as you just can't make this stuff up (well, maybe I could with one of my True Stories, LOL). But sadly, Ms Forte (little squiggle line over the e) would confirm (she was my English teacher in high school), that there were miles to travel before I reached the back of the "smart kids line." LOL

As I look in the mirror, and realizing that I will travel the road of my mothers father as I get older, I am afraid that this guy and I may have more in common than our outlook on life. LOL

All the best and great to again have the chance to banter with a good buddy on the intwerweb.

I see that while it is taking you longer then most here, you are slowly making progress with making contributions. Yes, that is a good site as well. And much like this site, it does well with it's "moderation" realizing that there is nothing to fear with helping to keep members informed about all the good stuff that is out there for Goldwing owners. Now, given that you have discovered this, does that not put a smile on your face knowing that a member, "like you" can feel free to share that here without the risk of being banned as compared to . . . . let's see . . . .how many would that be .. . . . yes, it would be ONE site that does not allow for this. Keep those informative posts coming Mr. on-the-road as while I speak for no one, I do look forward to your continued attempts at trying to contribute something here. LOL

So, let me ask YOU, did you wake up today and decide it was going to be a good day, OR, . . . . never mind, as I think we all know. LOL Did I forget my manners again by not saying WELCOME. Yeah know, every site "needs one" and I can see you will be more than happy to fill the bill here.
