Being that this is a new forum, I was just wondering what the limits are. For example, if I say **** you and the horse you rode in on". Is that permissible?

If that means "love" you and your horse that would probably be okay. I have a feeling you are able to tell yourself what is permissible and what isn't, don't you?

If you are an average decent person then I suspect you will be civil....

If you need a rule suggestion, don't post anything here that you would not say to anyone face to face; and imagine the person your face to face with is a 6'4" retired Navy Seal...

That should keep you polite enough...

For some people, participating on a forum board is a way to lead a double life. For example, a mild mannered guy in real life might act like a real badazz jerk when he's protected by the anonymity of the internet. The simple guideline I follow is that I don't type/say anything here that I would not want my wife or kids to read.

Hey, that is my saying! Your plagiarizing! We do have some ladies that are participants, and as in real life, I try to keep it down in front of the ladies! That being the words!! LOL!

Do not the asterisks connote a word that all know what it means? Then you may as well use the word. I would say absolutely not. Total lack of class.

I've alerted Cruiseman of that. To answer the OP, I think that would be a personal attack, and not allowed. I'd just keep it classy, and either ignore them, or just let it be. Some people certainly deserve it, but you have to be the better person. Like azsandrider stated, just decide if you would say that to someone's face, knowing they could cause you great bodily harm. It's a good barometer of whether you should put it here.

I'm a bit confused, and concerned. I can understand the attraction to me - though firmly entrenched into middle age, I'm still a ruggedly handsome guy, full of wit and good humor, and have even been called "charming" by some.

                                  But, my horse??? Yuck...

PS - please don't take this as any sort of acceptance of your ... fine offer...

Thanks to everyone who took the time to reply to my post regarding use of the expression "**** you and the horse you rode in on".

However, I was wondering about something.

If the pronoun "you" is plural instead of singular; would it not be a general attack instead of a personal attack in which case, it would be permissible? Is that correct?

It seems lot of folks moved from the other forum to here I myself included. What I noticed is some of the posting turned ugly and hostile (not to naming anyone). Could the same issue happens here?

Here are a few measures that could be taken to better control the Off-Topic Discussion Forum (OTF) in the future. We are always looking for ways to make the forum better, so here is your chance to vote...
Move the OTF to the Groups section (Option 1 above)

                                          20
Only allow access to the OTF after a member has posted 25 or more times (see Option 2 above)
                                          23.08%
                                          12
Charge a small annual fee for access to the OTF (see Option 3 above)
                                          13.46%
                                          7
Allow a member to be "voted off the island" by other members (Option 4 above)
                                          15.38%
                                          8
Get rid of the Off-Topic Forum altogether

                                          9
Leave it as it is! No changes are needed.
