What a tragic accident this was. The other driver was kind of careless getting out of his car and approaching oncoming traffic. Looks to me like Stewart did not even see him on the track because of the car in front of him.

I found this an interesting perspective on the issue:

Good article, I feel for Tony because of all the crap being thrown around. I can not believe they have no rules for drivers to remain in their cars and not get out on the track, especially to point and wave hand gestures at other drivers. Anyone who could think this was an intentional act is just pathetic.Dave - High up in Arizona - Black Metallic 2019 DCT

That driver caused his own death by getting out of his car, walking down the track & standing in front of moving race cars. One of the most idiotic actions I've ever seen! If Stewart hadn't hit him someone else would have.

Actually the blue & white car in front of Stewart had to swerve and almost hit the pedestrian on the race track. Stupid move for the driver to get out on the track and he paid the ultimate price for his stupidity. Now others, including Stewart, have to suffer emotional trauma over this incident.2006 Titanium Level 3 'Wing with a few 'farkles. From Mesa, Az.

Unfortunately for Tony, the Monday Morning Quarterbacks may have their day. No one but Tony had a view from inside his car. The track was dark. I believe a 20 year old "kid" let his testosterone rule and was not thinking clearly. He is not the first one to do something very stupid and pay for it with his life. Of course his family will have dollar signs in their eyes. For sure.2007 Crucible Orange Metallic
