  • Use An Old WiFi Node To Mess With Your Neighbors Heads

I have two old non-used Linksys 802.11G nodes I plugged into an upstairs bedroom. They are not connected to anything. They just sit there and continually beacon.

SSID: NSA Monitoring Van # 23

    Also

SSID: FBI SWAT TAC Team A

Put those old nodes to good use !
    :D

As the Guinness guys used to say... Brilliant! I wonder how many people in your neighborhood called the internet provider complaining that they can't get online?

That is hilarious. I do a lot of work on wireless and that is just too much. Thanks for the laugh.

Our active one is actually named FBI Surveillance Van. Seems that I am not the only one with a warped sense of humor.

We live in a heavy gathering of Mormon folks in this neighborhood. I have my WiFi named various fun names: Fast Farts , Loose Farts, I see You, Loud Farts... "Fart " being a theme I use. No Idea why , cept Mormons tend to have 6 - 9 children here.

Somewhere (Denver, I believe) a man set a WIFI up on an airliner and named it "Bomb Location 19E". Boy, did that cause trouble!

I don't know about that act getting 3 thumbs up's.

What sort of Moron would even think of doing that.
I sure the Feds made real sure the guy was just a complete idiot.

Rick, I am not a computer techy either, but what they are doing (I think), is taking an unused router an setting up an ID that is not usable. If you have a computer in a neighborhood and try to log onto the internet, you computer will search and give you a list of available connections. It might say Bobs house, or the Smith residence or the Bates motel. Most people have their Wi Fi password protected so your next door neighbor cannot access it on your dime, an example would be when you go to a motel, they will give you the password to access their Wi Fi. sometimes they can be found open and can be used to access the internet. Obviously, this being unusable but with a very suspicious name like NSA, it would drive the paranoid types nuts. Someone can correct me if I missed something. Actually I think it's quite funny.
