I DO NOT like getting screwed by anyone - especially a ****ing website!
The question was asked before jeffy closed this thread............. where are all the other people that have been banded gone to? Where are the misfits of the 'net collecting? many of these individuals had great things to offer this site and have been banished to the oblivion. I like/want them back before this place takes a nose dive. If Cruiseman is permanently banished, then you better take down all the good "how to" info. This whole heavy handed keystroking thing is ridiculous.
AND.............why in the he!! doesn't my keybod not wrkrightin thi rinky dink board? <<<<<<<<<< see?
My reply:
"where are all the other people that have been banded gone to?"
Yeah the link is gone But that is funny VS jeffy is a royal PIA and a power hog His avatar is very appropriate. I tried to contact him directly hoping he was actually living up to his posted claims of making it a better more civilized board and the only thing he did was follow his un official leader Bartman and ban me forever
I never even had a way to contact him. All I ever saw was that was banned permanently and no reason was given.
I am putting all that past me. Time to move forward. I love to ride and I love to share stories with others who love to ride. That's what THIS forum is all about.
The right enthusiasts will find us in time.

Here's my story. After Bartman posted that he had never launched any personal attacks against Goldwing Greg, I posted examples that showed he had. The thread was deleted, and suddenly my log in no longer worked. No ban or anything, but it didn't work any more. As soon as I logged in and access the forums, I would get a message that the board was busy. I could read the forums not logged in, and I tried it from multiple computers, and multiple IP addresses (even from my android phone). The results were the same, I could see messages not logged in, but the board reported "busy" if I logged in. Other users were posting away, as there were newer posts, but I could not get past the login.
So, I created a clearly labeled temporary ID, and reported it in the tech forum. It took almost a week, but it got fixed. Within two days, the problem re-occurred. I tried to use the temp ID, but it had been banned. So, I created another temporary ID, and reported it again. I got an email this time from a tech person, stating it was working. I logged in, and within a day was banned.
When they (he?) banned me, I got this message:
You have been banned for the following reason:
No reason was specified.
Date the ban will be lifted: Never
I tried sending a few emails, but they went unanswered. Don't know for sure why, maybe they weren't getting through. Regardless, it would have been worthwhile to me to at least know the reason; so I asked another member to pass my query on. Neither of us ever heard back.
My suspicion (and this is based on solely on my personal IT experience, and what I saw happing on that forum) is that Bartman didn't like what I was posting, and rigged my user ID since he had no real reason to ban me. When that didn't work, he just went ahead with the ban with no explanation.
As I said, it's just my suspicion. If someone in charge over there wants to inform me differently, I'm open to it (but I'm not holding my breath).
In the meantime, this looks promising. I hope it does well.

That ban message looks vaguely familiar. But, that is in the past. This forum was started for those, like me (and you) trying to escape from all that stuff over there.

The thing I didn't like about the other sites. You could ask a question or tell something that happened to you and half the responses were that your stupid, a moron, a idiot, your stupidity brought this on yourself, use the search function idiot, etc. Or you don't have 1000 posts and can't be trusted. That kind of crap always makes you want to post or ask a question. Hopefully there won't be too much of that here. Someone would ask a question and then be bombarded with a bunch of negative comments. I would think, WOW... if you don't have an answer why not just say "I don't know" or just not answer. A lot of brave souls on the end of the keyboard.
Exactly they feel invulnerable in front of their key board..And bartman was turning into the worst one about name calling and then in next post denies he typed it,,.and then his groupie, VS jeffy is as bad or worse. I had been a member longer than most over there,,back when lamont had not even started this GL1800 board.. he was still selling his TRUE over drive conversions for the 1500,,.. I am done and this site appears to be headed in a much more relaxed atmosphere where you can feel comfortable asking a question and not expecting to be jumped on by all the wanna bees,, Thanks Cruiseman
I just found out what you were talking about. I just heard from "another user" who said he sent a message referring to this site, and when he put in "www.theglforum.com", the auto-censor on the program automatically changed it to "gl1800riders".
Absolutely No Joke
You really have to wonder about the mental state, and the ethics, of administrators of a forum that would do such a thing. It's one thing to censor out objectionable words (that's usually done by substituting with #### or something similar), it's probably even ethical (though not very ... inspiring ...) to make it policy that you can't refer to other "competing" forums; but to make it appear that someone posted something they did not, that goes beyond the pale.
I want to make it clear what they're doing. Let's use the made up example of politics here. Let's say that I'm a hard core Democrat, and I run a discussion forum. I decide to do a little trickery (likely with the auto-censor, though I'm not 100% sure that's what they're using), and I make it so that every time someone posts the phrase:
"vote Republican"
The discussion board will change it to:
"vote Democrat"
So, you come on as a user, and post something like
"I believe in good ol' core American values, so I always vote Republican"
(along with your recognized handle or name attached to it), and it gets changed to:
"I believe in gold ol' core American values, so I always vote Democrat"
All without the user knowing about it, until they go back and look to see what was done.
This is what those "other guys" are doing.
The administrators should be ashamed. The users there should be outraged.
On the plus side, the owners/administrators of this forum should be proud that they've already made enough of an impact that those guys have had to stoop to this extreme.

Yeah they are running scared.. Not allowed to use Mr. Parsons' name even when referencing a answer to a question.. And God help you if you mention Cruiseman.. The gates of Hades open up and fire blasts you. I believe the once and omnipotent bartman AKA "Super Moderator" went on a tirade a few days ago bad mouthing and calling him names that would have gotten us mere mortals banished for all eternity.. OH by the way goofy VS Jeff finally guessed at another one of my screen names and banned me forever AGAIN,,LOL. Lets see at this rate of banishment it should take him at least another 18 to 20 months to finally catch all my names on there.
And you are correct. The ethics and morals shown thus far by this crew are leaps and bounds above current standards over on the GL1800 board,, Sure miss Lamont
I still say the closing of the "Box" was the beginning of the end. I did not participate in it much but those that did certainly enjoyed it. Once it spilled outside...well...
Cruiseman, are you putting up anything like the box?
I have been a member of the 1800 forum for a year. During that time, I've noticed many users just "disappeared". I've also noticed the change of attitudes of the administrators. Anything for a couple of dollars.
I still consider myself a newbie, and because of that, I can ask this question, what is the box?

It was "the hot box", basically an "almost anything goes" area where the "no personal attacks" rule didn't apply. Many feel (and in the interest of "full disclosure, I'm among them) that when that got out of hand, and they moderator shut it down, that those that were "used to it", carried on in much the same way in the Off Topic forum.
I feel that was a large part of the reason things got bad there, but the full "blame" can't be placed on them, as the sole moderator (once the owner left) let those he favored freely engage in attacks on others, religious tangents, and political tangents; while putting the hammer down on those with whom he disagreed, even participating in the personal attacks himself, against those he felt it was "deserved".

Never write anything on a forum that you would not say to a person face to face (and imagine that person is bigger then you are). That is my rule of thumb.
I would suggest no Hot Box. It would eventually lead to problems. Keep this forum on track with GW MC related issues.

I suppose our Off Topic Forum is the closest thing to the box. But, I don't consider it an "anything goes" forum. Once a conversation descends into name-calling, personal attacks and threats, it is no longer a conversation, it is a fight.
Here's an idea, our "hot box" will be the other forum. Go over there if you want to fight it out.

I'm good with that, just looking for a place we can discuss things other than motorcycles. I agree with Mr. Parsons, too many people could not adjust to acting civil once it was shut down.

I agree 100% with this. That other place was getting like a bunch of little kids constantly bickering among themselves.

THAT is exactly what they were doing. When 530ktm sent me a PM about this site, I was perplexed why he would be sending me a PM about the gl1800riders forum, and telling me to go over there. Then for the mods to bold-faced lie, then change it so that those who called them out on it appear to be 'trolls'.
These rides will be like the last one we will have maps posted on the board and i will bring my laptop with the rides already installed so if you have a card or garmin gps i can load them for you. ...
I've had the privilege of riding many race tracks here in the USA. This past weekend I got to ride the Circuit Of The Americas (COTA), the track where Formula One and MotoGP race.
