  • Some just cannot take a joke! LOL!

Was just filling up my bike at the local gas stop. Guy pulls in on the other side of a the pump. Shuts his Yamaha Stratoliner off and steps off to grab pump. Looks at me and the ST1300 and states, " Bet you don't ride that thing very far huh? I just rode this bike yesterday 485 miles in one day, that is almost a Iron Butt! Do you like to do Iron Butts? he asks me."

I grin and said no! I like my butts soft and on the back side of a woman! LOL! Haaaaaaa! He gets a ****ed off look, not a grin, nothing but he is thinking..... He finally says, " By the looks of the little motorcycle there, it would be hard to ride as far as I did yesterday on it" I looked at him again and told him, well most people that rides these types of bikes Tour the whole US on them, they are built for sport touring. He then admitted, that he had never seen such a bike as the ST1300! But he was a long distance rider on his Yamaha Stratoliner in his mind though! I parted with him on one last gib at him! LOL! I told him, he should try womens butts next time, they are softer and it is what the Lord meant for us ride! Haaaaaaaa!, he looked at me and said " Real Funny" and turned to his pumping gas!

Rick you should hang your head in shame.
You were in the presence of a Living God mounted on the best of modern engineering..
You should have gassed up his bike and checked his tyre pressures.
I suspect he would have got several shorter answers and comments from me, and some directions where and how to head to next.

Same thing happened to me but the guy was in a cage. Asked me if I could put some gas in his car. Told him NO! He went in the store and came out with a coffee and country ham biscuit and drove off. Guess he needed that biscuit more than gas

Probably was upset that you weren't impressed with his riding. OTOH I had an ST1100, before the Wing, and I thought the ST was a great bike.

Wonder how surprised he would have been had you informed him that 485 miles isn't even HALF of an Iron Butt...

Was thinking the same thing. Should have told him that only qualifies as an iron cheek ride.

It's amazing the difference in perspective that people have when it come's to what a "long distance" ride is. Before I began riding a Wing, 485 milles would have been a big day. Now 485 miles is just a nice day of riding, but not a huge day by any means.

I mostly just shrug these comments off as people just not knowing what they say, but he was a bit condescending about a motorcycle that was not like his. I don't care what you ride, when your ride, where you ride. Never have gave two cents for make, model or whatever! Oh I poke a little fun from time to time, but it is just to poke at a guy, nothing serious. This guy was wayyyyyyyyy to serious! LOL!

And the lowest level of Iron Butt at that (and, to be fair, the only level I've done...)
