  • Hello

Just found this forum. I'm in Washington state. No bike at this time. Here to learn.

Thinking of an older low mileage Wing 1200 cc. I have a friend with one 85-86. . I have ridden smaller bikes & I think that this size would be as big as I want to go. Plus I've seen some real nice Wings of this vintage. Riding here for me wouldn't be year around so I don't want to break the bank.

Bart, welcome to the board and the world of Goldwings. I only had a 1200 for about 60,000 miles and I had to replace something related to the stator. Other than that it was a pretty darn good bike. For a bike of that vintage parts may be hard to find. Good luck.

              Welcome aboard!
the GL1200's were really nice bikes. The only drawback to owning one is that some repair parts are getting hard to find.

Bart, , and on the subject of an older Wing, may I suggest a GL-1100...rathert than the 1200's. Since Richard said that he had to replace a staor on his 1200, I have to assume he had a 1984 year bike, as they were notorious for that issue.

The 1980-1983 Goldwing 1100's were a great bike. They are lighter than the 1200's, more nimble than the 1200's, cost less than the 1200's, and can run as fast or slow as the 1200's.

A friend of mine is currently doing a facelift on his 1981 GL-1100, that back in the day was a show winning bike. He has had it sdince day one, brand new, and together we are making some modern improvements to it, so it is even better on the road.

                      "Think" about an 1100 Wing.

                      And again...

Welcome - It's always best to find a bike you like first starting with buying something you can afford to insure and ride to see if it's something you will really be into - it's not for everyone and taking small steps will save you a lot in the learning curve - Best of luck
